Fresh fruit v dried fruit

I need to so something to improve my diet which isn't that bad but I just can't be bothered to eat fruit. Don't know why its not a dislike but more of a life long I can't be bothered.

On the other hand I love dried fruit, so I wonder if I am missing out that much nutritionally. The biggest problem is its feast of famine I can knock back 400 Calories in a couple of minutes with dried fruit so also wondering what would be considered a sensible amount to eat.

For example a 100g pack of my favourite dried mango would suggest that a serving is 30g and if I open the pack I'd eat the lot. Not that I'd go by most serving suggestions think I'd starve if I did.

The problem is the concentrated sugar. Why not try dried vegetable chews and crisps? Many of them have as much nutrition as fruit, with far, far less sugar, and still taste plenty sweet. I'm a diabetic, and this is a trick I picked up when I owned a dehydrator (a fan oven on very low will work nearly as well). Home dried tomatoes, carrot chips, whatever makes you happy. You can make some good "fruit" leathers by blending apples with your favorite veg.

Nutritionally, there's going to be very little difference between one mango and one dehydrated mango.

You've already identified the main issue. It's much easier to accidentally over-eat on dried fruit. One mango might contain ~135 calories. Would you ever eat three mangoes in one go? Probably not. But you might eat 400 calories worth of dried mango without even thinking about it

IMO everyone likes fruit. If you dislike it, you are eating the wrong types of fruits. I personally hate all apples other than Pink Ladys and Granny Smiths. I dont really like plain oranges. But I love Blood oranges.

If I were you. I would go to a green grocer or a decent supermarket and try different varieties of fruits. A pink lady is totally different to Golden Delicious.

OK so how bad is having too much sugar. I eat zero chocolate, zero biscuits and don't have sugar on anything so can I allow myself 400 calories a day mainly from fruit sugar?

I tend not to have to worry about my weight.

When I was at the dentist a few weeks ago she said dried fruit was the equivalent of eating jelly babies! I tend to sprinkle some raisins in my breakfast and she told me substitute with nuts and seeds. You can't win
