The ban doesn't formally kick in until the licence is surrendered, correct?

some aren't surrendering the licence when disqualified allegedly.

Nice to see some technology in use rather than catching someone at a bog standard checkpoint.

Why do people bother not surrendering the licence. Its only getting them another prosecution and there is no benefit to doing it at all?

The figure that don't is staggering, over 90% iirc! The reason is they can still drive around and if stopped at a checkpoint can produce their licence and all seems in order, its only if the garda is given a reason to dig deeper they would be found out and that doesn't happen very often if all your discs are in order!
Also it allows them to rent cars and quads etc on holidays unhindered if they hold onto the piece of paper! Not giving it in is alot more beneficial than surrendering it which is wrong

Yep, and that Gannons recovery driver had a handy job thrown in!:D

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Probably thinking the ban cannot be activated if they refuse to surrender.

The prosecution rates for the same are in single figures.

Another area that needs tightening. Hand over the licence in the court room!

Eejits! See the problem is that since they have that 14 days they legally have to be given the licence back as it would be an offence to drive without it.

If someone was to buy a car previously owned by a disqualified driver, would I be stopped as that reg would be marked with the gardai as its linked to the offenders licence? Imagine the misery of that!

Where licences are concerned any appeal should be forthwith.

But the drunk drivers are having their licences taken pending their trial under new legislation.

Only in the event of a death I think.

    Open to correction.

    Anyone see the feed today?

Car seized after no insurance/tax (I think). Driver was in buying in the takeaway buying some chips.

Garda Traffic Twitter: "You takeaway chips, we takeaway car".

    Golden :D

A person who amasses 12 points thus triggering a ban.

Still  Was it a repeated typo on your part or is it an acronym (like twoc in the UK)?

As far as I know it's €150 release fee to get them back.
Most of them being under age so no license, tax or insurance will result in no prosecution and they'll be back on the roads/parks in no time.

When you purchase insurance, you've to provide the driver number for your license. Surely they should be alerted if you are disqualified?

You can be sure they just record the number. Data protection laws probably come into play and they likely have no right to the real data list of drivers and license numbers to match.

I've never had to supply any DL details when taking out insurance  (apart from type and length of time held)

Apparently they haven't a b@lls who people applying for insurance are. The insurance forum guys say they have to load all "new" drivers in their 30s as they can't tell actual "late learners" from people "reinventing themselves" to hide a ban or other issues.

If you believe what insurance people say at least....
