I actually used the "i am just avoiding potholes" line when I was pulled over for spirited driving once, I didnt even know it was a thing at the time.

    166 kph in a 120 zone

    Court appearance

Didn't think that would get you in front of a judge.

Probably wouldn't get court summons if this was on a sunny day/good visibility or at an off peak time.

He might have been doing this speed when there are loads of other traffic on the road and like it states, bad weather.

I'm happy he got court, it may save a life.

I'd guess because of his age and the "poor weather" conditions than the speed itself

Probably contributory factors alright. I've no problem with the court appearance, just a little surprised tbh.

I count my lucky stars that the guard who pulled me for apparently driving quicker than that was kind enough to let me away with a rollicking :p

Well this is it. Your attitude might also come into it or how remorseful you are.

A person may be getting a FCPN until they play the old "Tell me this guard, do you sleep well at night calling this police work when there are murderers and rapists walking our streets?"

The guard may then have a change of heart and say see you in court next September etc

Weather can't have been that poor if the guards were out though...

They seem to be posting a lot of similar stuff from limerick motorway. Speed isn't the problem around limerick on the motorway - it's congested off ramps suddenly slowing the left lane and people trying to jam themselves in at the last second from the overtaking lane, as others try to bail out of left lane.
And people who just will not try to match speed of the main carriageway before joining it.

They are constantly on the M20 checking speed, parked on the northbound on ramp of J4 Patrickswell.

I would much rather if the money spent on collecting fines for speeding on Limerick's safest road was spent on extending the M20 towards Cork.

    .

That's the thing judging by the pic the weather seems grand, slightly overcast no mist or standing water on the road. If thats what passes as poor weather conditions then everyone caught speeding on a motorway in Autumn will end up in court. I'd say the fact he's 20 and driving an a4 didn't help his cause.

That driver should be put off the road for being an out and out tool, wonder were they following their sat nav in to the sea?

Update from The Independent, he apparently spent the night there stuck :D
It is believed he spent the night in the car after getting stuck at about 9pm on Tuesday.

He was not freed until some of the staff from Blasket Islands Ferry took the keys off him, opened the boot and helped him to crawl out at about 8.30am the following morning.

Sibeal Ni Lubhaing, of the ferry company, said her colleagues discovered him when they went to the pier.

"He wanted to go on a little adventure, we think. He was saying he wanted to camp for the night," she said.

"He had great dreams of camping out beside the pier.

"But it all went horribly wrong - he's world famous now at this stage.

Hmmm, funny how he spent the night there. Almost like he wanted to sleep something off.
I know that slip well, no sat nav is going to send you that direction unless you enter "Great Blasket" as your destination.

Irish police confirmed that they attended the scene and helped the motorist
