24 month contract.. so it's €92 per month for a whole year after - no way out! No thanks.

online exclusive price of €25 (normally €30) a month for the first 12 months for new customers, thereafter €92 a month.

As a recent refugee from Virgin Media due to mmds ending, I had to get a new TV provider. I signed up for eir fibre and evision with a couple of multi room boxes. I can honestly say the service has been top notch, from the quality of the service itself, to the installation person, as well as the customer service people. Never any queue to speak with them.

Once you pass 24 months, you may find it difficult to cancel with them. I had serious issues with them. Spend extra for a better service imo.

    Who would you recommend?

I am done with upc/virgin their customer service is a joke.

A quad play package with virgin media costs more than €92 a month anyway.

Average of €58.50. Not bad for four-play. Sky or Virgin cannot match it anyway. It may be of interest to people who have pretty good fibre, as its needed for Eirvision.

If you consider the aggregate cost per month, it looks like a good deal. They're also giving a "Free 4G" phone with it, anyone know what phones are being offered here? In the tv ad for this offer, the phone they illustrate looks to be a Samsung Galaxy S5 (Could be completely wrong here)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 Roy_Keane16

I rang them yesterday to switch from virgin media to eir. They told me to order a phone line package so they can see if eir fibre can be ordered. (Depends on speed). It takes up to 6 days to know if you're compatible for eir fibre after the phone line is established. Then if they can offer eir fibre bundle you can only order a bundle package as an existing customer and not a new customer. Only found this out today when I rang to change the installation date. Think ill cool off and stick with virgin media. Bad experience with eir so far. The sales team weren't clear on any of this. The ppl I've spoken to were directing me to online chat option because they didn't know the answers. Terrible

I've no experience of them. It's the price in the second year that makes me ill.

Must admit I never had an issue with Eircom over the 6 years I was with them.

Don't know about their tv service (isn't it all just free to air channels?), or how it impacts on the Internet speeds, but I never had an issue with their broadband or fibre service. As a matter of fact, I'd have no problem recommending them based on my experience.

    That's the thing.
€60 per month for a quad service is very good. But going from 12 months @ €25 per month to 12 months @ €92 per month is a right kick in the stones.

I know it goes to full price after that, but I still think its a good offer.
They also include a mobile by the looks of it.

    90 a month after a year!

Afaik they dedicate a certain amount of your broadband speed to provide the TV service.

I have efibre and my mobile with them for 2 years now and I ve never had a problem. Only time my broadband was down was when a kn technician accidentally disconnected me, got a month free to make up for that.

Found their cs fine they sorted some issues I had with devices being booted off the WiFi and they are no way near as bad as some other service providers.

This. I had serious trouble with them a few years ago. I was out of contract, phoned to cancel and was told to write a letter to a particular department. It couldn't be done via email. It had to be a posted letter!! Then they sent me out a new modem without asking for one, which if I accepted renewed my contract. Then when I tried to switch to sky they couldn't do it because eircom had a "hold on the line" meaning they were my new internet providers waiting to set it up. It took about 6 phone calls to sort the whole thing out. They were a nightmare to deal with. I only hope eir don't have the same bad habits!

have this about a month or so - no problems across the services - 25 a month is great value for year 1, am thinking year 2 is just comparable

just getting used to the new tv programming format coming from sky is strange, on cancelling they weren't even able to match the price for the tv service to €25 a month

can stream on pc and have tv running at same time with no issues

looked for samsung s6 mobile handset and was offered it for €250 or so which i declined but can go after again, took the alcatel idol 4.7 inch screen and liking it so far

Know of Eircom charging cancellation fee when transferring to another ISP even though customer out of contract. Then said a new contract had been agreed on the phone but couldn't release the recording to prove it and cited Data Protection. Buyer beware....

Well I transferred to another provider when my contract was up. No cancellation fee and I have a credit of €31.00 in my account. Have bunged off an email to them for the refund.

There are no phones shown on that link, or indeed anywhere on the Eir site. You have to go to an Eir shop to see the phones.

The phone supplied in that offer has to have 4g. So at least it will be fairly high-spec.

Same experience. Continued to get billed after a line cancellation. Phone call after phone call trying to ensure the line was cancelled. Assured it was. Continued getting bills. Then they got a collection agency involved. Eir / Eircom can rebrand and change their name all they want but customer service is STILL appalling

I took their TV/fibre/landline offer last year and the TV was extremely poor - the box frequently complained that it wasn't connected to the registered broadband (it was) leaving me with no TV at all until a few reboots eventually sorted it out for a while, would get very hot, the EPG was slow and unresponsive, channel quality was relatively poor and things I'd asked to be added/removed required several calls.

In the end I downgraded to JUST their fibre (which does work fine to be fair) and got rid of the rest (who needs a landline these days anyway if you're a domestic customer).. although they still haven't picked up the TV box months later and they screwed up the billing of the new agreement which took 2 months to sort as well!

I signed up for the 25eur month offer. I was out of contract with mobile and broadband/home phone so no issues. I am awaiting installation but I received the mobile handset. I signed for the more expensive mobile 400 package and received a HTC one m8s for free. As I have a nexus 6, I will be selling the htC

Guess it depends on your definition of hi-spec.. even a Windows Phone will be a cheap plastic thing with poor specs. Android? Forget about it unless you enjoy laggggg :p

For things like this you really need to request either in writing, over the phone or both (best) an official complaint. They should have a dedicated complaints team to follow up on this. That team should be more tuned into complaints process than a sales team.. and therefore hopefully a more favourable outcome.

So basically the only phone you consider high Spec is an overpriced iPhone which has a locked down ecosystem, won't let you use showbox or Kodi, force closes apps so you can't multitask, slows down your phone dreadfully after two years once you upgrade to the latest os and will brick your phone if you get it repaired by an unlicensed repairer.

So you're idea of high spec is the phone that's going to cost you the most money to buy and operate.

Pretty sure he was saying if you pay 50 - 100 euro for a new phone (sim free etc), it's gonna be a shite build quality made with poor parts that break or degrade quicker than if you forked out enough for a decent phone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 726 ✭✭✭sue97

I bought this offer. Paid 400 for iPhone 6. Flogged my old iPhone 5s for 300 so in real terms new mobile cost 100. Service and product far exceeds Upc who could not provide/ would not provide broadband through out the whole semi-d house.

Er... where did I mention iPhone? I've never even owned an iPhone :p I actually fully agree they're overpriced, restricted fashion accessories rather than decent smartphones.

But the fact remains that certainly where Android is concerned, there are a lot of cheap handsets out there that are more painful to use than spending a bit extra for a mid-upper end Android phone (even a previous gen one in that bracket can be better than a newer cheap one). Windows Phone suffers this to a much lesser extent because the OS is better optimised and less bloated (well, until the arrival of Windows 10 for Phones but that's another issue)

But, someone mentioned they got a HTC M8 on this deal which is better than I was expecting. Oh and for the record, I've a Note 4 myself :)

I was with Virgin Media and got sick and tired of their crap, so we're switching to this package. VM's internet equipment is rubbish, the Horizon box is laggy as hell and there's no slower and cheaper internet available than 240Mb which is €60. Their phone CS got really bad recently and I had to ring them several times to sort out rogue charges and battle contract extensions over replacement modems, moving homes and second lines in the house. They take every opportunity to lock you into another contract without saying so. Such a mess.

With TV we had a monthly bill with VM of €85 + €20 for mobile contract with Meteor for my girlfriends mobile. That's €105.
With this package, we have an average of €60 per months for 24 months, effectively saving us €45 per month over VM. Now, the internet is slower, but we're more than fine with 100Mb.

You won't get 100mb unless you live right beside the exchange. Also the TVs use up some bandwidth so your down again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 795 ✭✭✭breeno

    25 x 12 = 300
    92 x 12 = 1104

    Total over 24 months - 1404
Total average per month - 58.50

That's a great price for a quad offering including 4g and fibre.

Why don't they just package it as €58.50 per month on a 2 year contract. So much more appealing and then also doesn't have the rather large outlay of €92 pm in the second year

Fair enough. They tested it and said we should get up to 90Mb. That's more than enough for us. If speed and quality is not to our expectation, then we sure will use our cancellation period and crawl back to VM.

    Eir = Eircom.

I wouldn't go near them if it was free. Personal experience has been absolutely disastrous. I can't convey my frustration with the product during my time with them (new house install). Hard to understand until an issue arrives but it will be all to apparent then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,077 ✭✭✭✭eh i dunno

As someone who has Eir tv,phone and broadband can I cancel my package and sign up again? I have the option to cancel this month due to the price increase. Has anyone tried this?

I signed up for their €25 a month, 24 month plan on Feb 4th, free phone (Nokia Lumia 640) arrived 2 days later and I have heard nothing since. How long were people waiting to see an installation technician? My contract with Virgin is still active until March 6th so not too bothered yet.
