    https://ie.trustpilot.com/review/www.tomtop.com

Looks legit ! But lots of poor reviews !

Looks like it may have been an error

The "regular price" has just gone up from £20.94 to £29.97, meaning the 44% discount brings it to £16.76 instead of £11.71

Additional 5% OFF with code VE5OFF

Not Free Shipping however! + $9.95

Price jumps up when you add to your cart.

Some kind of a glitch if you change it to US plug and back to EU plug the price is £16.76

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭deckie27

This is advertised at this price for the last couple of weeks
It is at the level of to almost good to be true

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,006 ✭✭✭bmwguy

Very good price if legit. When buying one of these you should budget for an air mouse remote control too as the remotes that come with them are not user friendly at all.

Don't forget customs for VAT also as it would be coming for China, 23% of the price plus An Posts €7 charge. I don't think its worth getting with just 1GB of Ram however.

Even if declared at that price. Would customs assume its marked at a lower price to avoid being charged and then hit ya with a fee??

Saw it on FB a few weeks ago.

    FB5OFF give you a discount.

Where do you pay customs,at the door when it's delivered or how do they contact u

I only got stung for customs once on a boxset I ordered from Play.com from Jersey Islands back in 2010, I had to pay the Postman or she couldn't deliver it to me.I presume if your not there they let a note or something to collect it in the post-office and pay the VAT etc.

    Nope.

    VAT = €0.00
    Duty = €0.00

As long as the value of the goods incl shipping / insurance is below €22 no VAT is due

1 GB of Ram is small enough these days all right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 523 ✭✭✭WIZWEB

Generally once under €26 approx you'll avoid customs duties. American dollar prices seem cheaper to order so revolut card would be handy. Tempted to order a couple of these for family and friends addresses. Not used this crowd before though. Some nasty reviews but often unhappy customers only make such efforts unless influenced by motivations such as Amazons.... You're generally covered by PayPal though if item is faulty you're stuck with a hefty bill to register post it back to China. Would love to know others experiences with this crowd.

Chromecast is very limited in comparison with something like this (not saying this one in particular just in general).

Depends on where its coming from and if there is an invoice accompanying it. With an post the last few times I received a letter requesting a copy of the invoice to prove the value. On submitting that they let me know how much was due. With this reply:

"Thank you for your eMail. Customs Charges are due on your package. The charges and the expected delivery date are set out below. The charges can be paid to the postperson on delivery by cash or cheque/postal order made payable to“ An Post”. If you are not in when An Post call, they will leave a note in your letterbox advising where to collect your parcel and pay the charges. Any queries or questions relating to the delivery of your package should be directed to An Post Customer Service at 1850 575859 quoting your Track and Trace number."

I must say out lovely local postman was very embarassed and uncomfortable collecting cash from me, I felt sorry for him.

I have a Chromecast, really can only utilise Youtube, Plex and Netflix from it. With something like this, there's the whole world of Kodi easily available, which offers a lot more flexibility.

I've been getting MXQs for quite a while. Initially from Asia but the gamble with customs and the 4 week wait pushed me towards Amazon. 5 day turnaround and no customs hassle. I have noticed that the Amazon offerings are markedly heavier than the chinese offerings. I know they all originate from there, but the build quality, and most likely components used differ greatly from one supplier to another. €46 for a MXQ with Rii keyboard for €46 from a 'no messing around supplier' is about as good as you're likely to get when quick shipping is required.

Revenue don't seek payment of VAT liabilities of €6 or less, so factoring that in it brings the value of goods you can import up to €26. VAT @ 23% on €26 comes to €5.98.
    2. Non-collection of Small Amounts of Import Charges

Where the customs duty on a consignment of goods amounts to less than €10 it will not be collected. Similarly, VAT liability amounting to less than or equal to €6 will not be collected. No similar rule applies in the case of excise duty which will always be collected if the goods are liable to excise duty.

These can be bought on Aliexpress for around €27. Even if caught for VAT it would be aound €33.50. I've seen a few places in Ireland selling these at totally rip off prices. Some companies even having them branded with their own logo and selling them for up to €150.

Service charge is €7 on top of that and probability of getting caught would be 90% plus.

No way is there a 90% chance of being caught.

if you use DHL or the likes there is.

Its definitely below 30-40% with snail mail, never been caught yet and have 30-40 items received at this stage.
I've had a few get lost, get refunded for them only for them then to show up!

Do not use DHL for anything from China.

If your supplier in China doesn't specifically list the shipping cost on the invoice they use their current Ireland to China price for a similar package to calculate the applicable VAT.

Depends on where you based I guess. I'm based in Sligo and everything this and last year has been checked, opened and have asked me for receipt of they did not find include invoice in package.

All of it was via snail mail. Dublin and other busy regions may not check all post yet. There is simply too much money being lost by the revenue and they are taking action to deal with it.

I've stuff from aliexpress arriving regularly, at least once a month. Most have been under the limit, all have been marked as gift or worth a few euro and I've never had one opened. Some were big enough packages too despite being cheap things, as big as the box for a phone or one of these boxes anyway.

I saw this offer on Facebook and their thread was full of complaints. People saying they were second hand/refurbished boxes. And that was backed up by one guy who said when he got his it had someone else's facebook account logged in! Lots of complaints about them constantly locking up or totally dying after a matter of days. Wouldn't go near them!

I've ordered a few of the new MXQ pro quickplays with the S905 chips, 2ghz, to check them out. Hoping to move to them if they are reliable.

I chanced ordering this when I saw the post, it wasn't dispatched until the 26th February and has arrived today, haven't tested it yet but looks fine so far.
