The new Mazda MX5. Those alloys aren't getting marked anytime soon :p

Amazing looking car, apologies for the poor photo.

In Greystones yesterday, on English plates.
Its a McLaren, I don't know what model. The P1 is the hybrid isn't it? This one was definitely on full petrol power I can tell you - the sound was awesome

Saw a new model top of the range Range Rover with steering wheel lock on it in , Park lane London at w end.
Thought these had , had their day and would only be used on older vehicles ?
Assume owner is afraid of someone over riding alarm or have a spare key for it ?

A4 TDI - taken today in the Erneside shopping centre in Enniskillen. This thing must be running on air shocks or something as I have no idea how he managed to get over the ramps on the way into the car park .

Can't believe you saw that many supercars in Paris at this time of the year. I've been there couple of years ago in April and all I saw was Ferrari 458 and few 599 GTO cse they were just driving to some event. Nothing over that. Pity you didn't go to that carpark where all nice cars are parked.

I would've gone to that car park but didn't want to drag the girlfriend around car spotting. These were just cars we saw on the way to places.

    I saw an F40 and a 991 GT3 RS too but didn't get photos :(

Really lucky you, I can count on fingers supercars I saw in Paris. Good there was Tour Auto Optic that time so we were not too boring there.

If the Maserati was mine it would have its own bodyguard nevermind a steering lock :D

Saw a silver Aston Martin Rapide (English reg) in Navan and a Rolls Royce Silver Seraph in Maynooth today. Couldn't take pics as was driving.

The Rolls was near Tesco if anyone wants to take a snap, if its still there!

Have to laugh at the steering lock on the Maserati.

The brother of a friend of mine in Germany works in office, home and motor security, he deals with high end stuff. He said it's the newest thing for some high end cars. It seems the electronic alarms on many of them can be cracked and if they can, it's a 5-10 second job to nick one.

With the steering lock it buys valuable extra seconds, the better locks can take several minutes to pick, if they are at all pickable and some insurance companies are demanding them as standard.

He's worked in the trade with his Dad for a few years, they both reckon the "old fashioned skill" of picking a car lock has essentially died out as they are relying on technology to crack the cars now. Thefts of S-Class, 7er, A8's, G-Wagons, Porsches etc are back on the rise in Germany again.

Would trackers not be a more affective and assuring alternative? Wasn't that long ago they had lads on the TV showing you a £200 steering lock dismantled in less than a minute.

Trackers can be disabled while the car is being stripped and in many cases found and removed.

The steering lock is a deterrent, a visual as well as physical one. Yes, some steering locks are crap, some wort htheir money.

FWIW, the guy I mentioned has an E34 M5 Touring as his private car (I think I posted photos of it a while back). Chain and top quality lock through the steering wheel, which is run through a bracket in the floor. It's been broken into, but never stolen, Has a tracker too, but he doesn't put a huge amount of faith in it.

Physical deterrents slow the scum down alright RK. However most steering locks and chains are very easy to bypass. Maybe they're a deterrent now because the modern scum aren't used to them? Most trackers tend to be placed in the same sites on a car. There's a limit to where you can position them, so the scum know this. And I'd agree with your mate, good to have, but wouldn't rely on one. Plus they only come into play after your car is stolen. It's far better to try and stop the scum before that point. Back in the day and still with older cars third party alarms were also nearly always in the same place in the car running the same engine cutoffs(this could include some very expensive Clifford and the like setups. One crowd I remember used always put the clifford brain under the drivers seat), so again easy enough to bypass for the experienced and even not so experienced scum.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
