Getting 7.2 lts/100 in a new Tucson,is this right as the reviews say 60+ mpg?

7.2 l/ 100km is around 40mpg, which seems fairly realistic for a combined figure for that car. you could probably see a little more if you are doing mostly light footed motorway runs.

i'm sure reviews suggest it, but a real world combined figure in the 60's would be a bit of a fantasy for that vehicle imo.

MPG from car manufacturers are fantasy
They use rolling road where there is no wind resistance and everything is under ideal conditions. Real world is often a great deal less.
40 mpg for jeep type vehicle that is more shaped like a brick than a stream lined spots car is actually quite good.

It is a good looking car/svu. I would love one

It depends on your driving - short journeys, long journeys, around town?

Cokd weather in winter makes cars economy take a dip. Also its three weeks old - any diesel takes a while to run it.

Reviews are probably referring to official figures which nearly always overstate the mpg.

Unless you run the same test under the same conditions as those used in the reviews then your not going to see the same results.

sounds fairly good for a Tucson. Probably suburban driving though. a bit of steady motorway driving should improve that figure

It also takes time for a new car to loosen up, I'd expect mpg to gradually improve.

The mpg claims by manufacturers are laughable but they are all following strict European regulations and are all measured the same way. I've always thought that if I can get to within about the manufacturer figure less about 20% then I'm doing well but mostly it's far less than that.

The winter colder weather wouldn't help and your talking 10k km before a diesel is anyway run in and even then. So you should see a gradual increase in mpg over the next few months as it gets better on diesel but it will never get 60mpg good it's an SUV at the end of the day even late 40s mpg would be really really good for one.

Even some of the car adds are stating that the MPG figure claimed is not a real world value and should only be used as a comparison between vehicles ;)

Just seen the new add on the tv, they are claiming 4.9 ltr/100km good luck with that

What would one of these do at 120km/h? What are we talking, the 2l diesel?

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,138 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Majority are 1.7 diesel. Think the 2.0 litre is only reserved for the auto and on paper it's not much quicker than the 1.7 litre.

    Weighs 2000kg afaik

That is a little on the high side but as others have already mentioned it is a new engine and will take time to loosen up. Once it does that you should start to see reductions in fuel consumption. I had one for a while last year and was getting down to about 5.5- 5.8 litres/100km with mostly city driving.

    It's a 1.7 and mostly m50 100kph driving. Lowest is 6.8lts/100. Lovely drive.

Honest John is reporting 63% real world MPG - which tallies with what you're getting. http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/hyundai/tucson-2015/

Manufacturers' published figures for MPG are a fallacy.

Driving a 2011 Sportage, it has the same 1.7 engine, getting 5.0- 5.2 litres/100km. Was a bit higher when it was new, so it should improve.

Picking up a new 2016 Sportage next week, will be interesting to see how it compares.

It's the fault of the system whereby they are allowed to conduct the tests.

Have figured out how to work the lts/100 gauge, and have it down to 4.3lts/100 on the motorway. Happy camper.

What speed were you doing to get it down to that?

We've driven it, but I'm not sure what the policy is about posting links to other sites on here?

Doing 100kph at 1500rpm ,you need to re set average gauge while driving. (M50 driving).
