i drive my daughter 70 km a day for college. in a week it costs me approx 50/60 euro petrol and i drive verrry carefully:)
public transport is not viable from our home so that's ruled out.

Wow, fairplay. My Mother would barely drop me to school!

So now that that's settled, it's time to bring out the pitchforks for OP for saying mopeds aren't for women a couple of pages back

I was this close to setting up a crowd funding site for the poor student.
    To arrange a brain transplant.

Bus Eireann tickets are quite expensive.

In my area its actually more expensive to get a single ticket to Dublin with Bus Eireann than with a private operator going the same distance.

The frequency of the service is excellent and it serves lots of areas that private operators wouldn't so I assume that a lot of runs on certain routes running at a loss and therefore would explain the high prices, so I suppose you can't really complain about that.

    Oh the irony...

You found a promotion from 2010?
This promotion will commence on Monday, 4 October and will be available from the driver and at The Travel Centre, Parnell Place.

The following Routes apply to this Special 10 Journey Student Weekly Ticket:

    Skibbereen €50.00
    Bantry €50.00
For further information on timetables for the above routes, please contact Bus Éireann, Travel Centre, Parnell Place 021 4508188

    Friday, 29th October, 2010

A 10 journey ticket for students is €62.70, about half of what you claim your friend is paying now.

She can make one journey in the morning to get from Bantry to Cork (stops at UCC) and one journey in the evening to get from Cork (picks up at UCC) to Bantry.

    That's two journeys.

Do two journeys on a Monday, two journeys on a Tuesday, two journeys on a Wednesday, two journeys on a Thursday, two journeys on a Friday and the total number of journeys is 10.

So the total cost for getting from Bantry to Cork and back again for a student from Monday to Friday is €62.70.

I spelling it out in this much detail because you seem a bit thick.

Regardless of the confusion regarding what the **** is going on with the buses, student accommodation has got crazy hard to get across the country. I know that in Galway, a few hostels have started advertising themselves as student accommodation.
