It wasn't going to the staff. The notice clearly said it was to offset the rise in prices they had to pay to suppliers.

And I generally don't tip anywhere. I get paid to do a job the same way everyone else does.

Do not make this service charge rubbish common in Ireland. Another thing seeping in from America. Even if it was going to staff it's now taxable etc. Tips should be given to the person you deal with if it's worthy and if they pool them after they that's their business. Places should pay staff adiquityly so service tips shouldn't be a necessity anyway. But forcing a service charge on customers is not good.

What's the overall feeling in Tralee generally about the Festival this year, was it as good as last year, what elements worked, were the crowds there?

From what I saw, it was well supported. Was around town on the Sunday before the televised event and it was hopping. Did coincide with a nice weather, which always helps

I hadn't been in Tralee in 10+ years on festival weekend until this year so can't really compare but I thought there was a great buzz. Sunday afternoon was fantastic.. a lot thanks to the balmy sunny weather and just a feel good family friendly, carnival vibe.

Friday night the streets were quiet-ish but the pubs were packed. "Cher" on Denny Street was very entertaining! I wasn't out Sat night but by all accounts it was well received but I was out Sunday night and The Square was rocking with live bands and then Denny St with the tribute acts for The Beatles and Abba. All in all, a fun festival experience!

Is any progress being made on the new road from Forge cross to the Abbeydorney road? There doesn't seem to be any work being done any time I have passed it.

Hmm...an awful place to get into/park etc...those sort of businesses are better suited in industrial estates or edge of town locations I'd have thought...

I haven't lived in Kerry regularly for years but visit home monthly and still wait to get my watch batteries or repairs done here at Connollys or if I'm buying the occasional jewellery gift, I'll buy them here. It's partly due to habit but mainly due to the excellent and friendly service and being more affordable than anywhere else! A shame to see it close but they've more than served their time. Good luck to them!

A lovely building so hopefully a nice business will take it over or preferably another jeweller which would be ideal!

Well actually I think it's more likely it will be subsumed into the hotel/apartment being planned next door in Caballs, that's my theory anyway! That said I will be sorry to see it go, it was my jeweller of choice too for anything I needed in that line, I remember her mother and father being there and Norma was more than obliging when I had some old jewellery I needed advice on in the recent past.

I wish them well in their retirement, they are young enough to enjoy it plenty I hope and they certainly have done their time with the public, it can't be easy! I would never go back to dealing with the public having served a similar time in town centre too, like lots of things it was easier years ago!

256 new homes in Clash opposite the racecourse. Badly needed, especially seeing as the Fat Mile housing plan was killed off. Hope this doesn't suffer the same fate by the planners.

Works going on at the park gate off princes st. Seems to be repairing the pathway, and doing some maintenance to the structure, but they won't be removing it thankfully!

It looks like there is work going on in Chopin's on Ashe at. I could be wrong but it could be by the people who own Gregory's garden and forge pizza.

Yes, spitjacks were supposed to be opening there. I'd imagine the costs to renovate that building would be astronomical.

Pleasantly surprised. A decent coffee and biscuit for 3.20.

Last time I was there I had to pull out the tables and chairs to sit down and hour after they were supposed to be open

Was at Rustic Boowa earlier today. Their cheese-filled croissants are to die for. They'll be at the Dingle Food Festival the first weekend in October.
