The film Zulu is about the Battle of Rorke's Drift; I've been to the actual battle site, which isn't as picturesque as the location used in the movie. The real place is pretty flat, while the movie was shot in the foothills of the Drakensberg about 200km away.

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

Forgot about Dust Devil, set in Namibia IIRC. Cult horror film.

How was Ethiopia? I love Ethiopian food. Tried to get there before but the land border between Kenya and Ethiopia was closed to whiteys due to bandits or something, and the flights were too expensive.

What kind of volunteer work were you doing? Please tell me you're a doctor or something and you weren't just painting walls or "teaching" kids!

I watched Timbuktu last night. Beautifully shot, simple but effective plot and right up to date in terms of current events.

    It's definitely worth a watch.

I wouldn't recommend this one. It's almost a snuff film in some scenes. Also, the directors were said to have paid the Africans to do the crazy stuff you see on camera.
