    Hi All

Myself and partner have been Ttc since last November.
As of today it has been 130 days since my last period :( feeling at a loss as we can't really 'try' if nothing is happening!
I'm 29, always had irregular periods but this year is particularly bad (typical -as soon as we decided to try!).

I've been for pelvic ultra sound which showed cysts but bloods are all fine so doc is saying it's not typical pcos and to start saving for fertility treatment!...

I've a million questions and yet none... Totally deflated :(

Did you go to a fertility clinic, or was it the GP?

I'm in the GP on Friday for blood tests to diagnose PCOS and possibly thyroid issues so will be interesting to see what they say.

So fasting at the moment getting ready for the blood test tomorrow. I've a massive phobia of blood and needles, so I'm absolutely sh*tting bricks right now :(

    Good luck Toots!

Thanks chickenpoo! The nurse who did the bloods was like some sort of ninja, she had it done so fast. Still managed to come over all dizzy so they made me drink a can of coke and eat chocolate digestives before they'd let me leave :o mortified!! Should have the results at the end of the week so hoping there won't be a need for any more bloods.

Don't ever be mortified, toots :) I asked my nurse how they deal with needle phobic patients. She said they just take as long as they need, and explained that if you're late big called in for your appointment you can nearly bet that they had a fainter or someone scared earlier who just needed an extra bit of time :) it's nice that a nurse will take that extra bit of time :)

Oddly enough, it's not so much the needles that get me, it's the fact that it's going into a vein. I can get injections no problem, and have multiple piercings and lots of tattoos, but for some reason blood tests and IV's are my biggest phobia. I can't stand blood.

My hubby came in with me and the nurse recruited him as her helper :pac: he held the end of the tube thingy while she changed the little phials when they were full, so I wouldn't feel any movement. I have to say it was probably the quickest and least painful I've ever had. I thought there must have only been 2 or 3 little phials, but my hubby told me afterwards that there was 9!! There wasn't a single mark on my arm afterwards, and I've had times where I'd be black and blue coming out from bloods. Apparently a good tip is to make sure you're really well hydrated and wear something warm going in - makes it easier to get a vein, and also makes the blood come out faster........ gross.

There is one phlebotomist in our local Maternity unit who is brilliant at taking blood. She's done before you know it and never any bruising afterwards. I've had others who could be strong contenders for Bullseye but she's lovely.

The nurses in my GP are all great, and the majority of the ones who took my blood in the hospital were grand too, but I remember when going in for my booking bloods and I don't know what yer one was doing but she butchered me. Every time she changed the phial, she pulled the needle out, and had to go in again. Fainted and barfed on that one. Next day my arm looked like an elderly person after a fall - you know the way if they get a bruise it goes a really dark purple/black? It took about a fortnight for it to go back to normal.

I miscarried on Thursday. I am still bleeding away. It is very up and down, which I didn't expect. I can bleed heavily for a day with loads of pain, then it settles, then it flares up again. We are fairly okay about it now. We took the weekend to wallow and are back to real life now. It is mad going about my daily business knowing what my body is doing. It makes me wonder how many times I have passed women in the shops etc. who are in the process of miscarrying.

I'm so sorry to hear that Love. I bled steadily on mine, but every women is so different.

I worked during all mine bar one where I was on maternity leave. I just needed to be busy. Maybe I was ignoring it? One day - the second MC - I'll never forget was picking up my OH from work and met his boss who joked that we'd want to be getting a move on on a sibling. He's lovely and obviously had no idea I was currently miscarrying. But having to respond in a jokey way too will stay with me.

Lots of hugs to you. It's not easy. <3

Been there girl, it is a horrible experience and so much more common that you think before you have one.

Hang in there and be good to yourself. x

Hey so glad to have found this thread. We're ttc 4 months, both 29! I'm so optimistic all month and then period comes with crushing disappointment! I know there's been speem hanging around when I've ovulated as we're doing quite a lot of night time activity so just really confused as to why it hasn't happened for us yet. Hopefully it won't be too long! It's hard to go through this disappointment every month!

Hey just wondering if anyone has used a ttc lube? I bought a fertility gel in boots and having read the mixed reviews online I'm wondering if it will actually do more harm than good?! Thanks for the help!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,948 ✭✭✭✭Neyite

They aren't harmful. :) The likes of Conceive Plus or Preseed are designed to be safe for sperm, so if you find using them useful, go for it.

So Last Wednesday I had all the symptoms of AF and a little bleed (lasted about 3 hours) Ive had nothing since. The last few days ive had VERY sore boobs, been turned off food I would normally love. Smells are making me feel sick and really bad back pain. So I done a test yesterday morning (Clearblue) and it was a BFN then this morning I done a first respone and again a BFN. Im now on day 33 of my cycle and don't know what is going on.

Since we started TTC my cycles have become very irregular, its very frustrating as I keep thinking the worst. (Natural worrier) Im considering heading to the doctor but my OH says im over reacting.

How long are you trying baby dream? If I were you I'd just go to the dr. If everything is fine it will give you the peace of mind to know that everything's ok and if something is a miss you can become proactive about it. The lack of control re ttc is tough, I'm so optimistic during the month and then devastated when period comes. If it's causing you that much stress go and talk to a GP

I had my last scan today to check if there was any tissue left over from the miscarriage. My womb is looking well and the lining is starting to grow back. They advised to wait for a period before trying again but it is only to help them date. I have decided to ignore this advice! I will start testing for ovulation in the next few weeks. Hopefully I will get pregnant and this will give them their date.

Very sorry to read this loveinapril. I hope u ok. After getting a BFP next month after chemical I unfortunately suffered another loss last month. It did last a bit longer that time though. I got bloods done and all came back normal so they putting it down to very bad luck for now

    Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me here as I'm a bit confused. I had blood tests done and one was testing my AMH. I'm 30 years of age and it came back as 18.8. I can't figure out if that is good, bad or average because I see so many conflicting things online.

I was hoping to try for a baby in the next 2 years or so but if my AMH is low for my age I'd rather start sooner.

Unfortunately I also had a miscarriage last week at 6 weeks 5 days so know how you feel LoveinApril and hope you are doing ok too. I had some spotting the day after we found out I was pregnant so I suppose I was a bit nervous about it but was hoping for the best. It has been a devastating week, I tried to go back to work 4 days after it happened only for a co-worker to announce his girlfriend was pregnant so I had to leave. Feel like I've gotten the crying out of my system and just want to move on now, the OH has been an unbelievable rock and is so positive he keeps me going.
I started temping again and they are all over the place, even though the bleeding only lasted 6 days and was pain free thankfully, I guess my body is still processing a lot. I don't think we will 'wait' a cycle either and have decided to stay off alcohol and keep up the healthy eating roll we were on. Feeling very hopeful that next time all will go well and at least I know now that symptom spotting was pointless as I never had any symptoms with the BFP! I think even though I will probably be very nervous next time around you have to keep believing it will happen! X

Thank you LoveinApril, I know exactly what you mean with regards to support. I have already had some hurtful things, my dad even said 'this is why you keep it to yourself' and I went mad saying that I didn't care and wanted their support! My sis-in law also had 2 losses but didn't contact us and my brother did talk about it but basically said it never gets better...one friend said a few hurtful things too like saying some people lose actual kids after birth, but yea I'm very aware my hormones are all over the place and I'm quite sensitive but still people need some cop on!
I'm so sorry Taraf123, that must have been very hard. That is good to know your bloods came back ok and hope you are ok.
I'm tempted to get blood work done too but our midwife said it is very common and really doesn't mean anything is wrong. I had gone to the doctor during the summer over having mainly clot type periods and they brushed it off so I will wait a cycle or two (if I have to!) and get them to check it out. No idea if my cycle will change after this will have to wait and see! Good luck to you all too! x

And very sad news for you too Meubles. It's unfair isn't it. Definitely takes the joy out of getting a BFP. If I get one again I know it will be a long time before I start getting excited about it. I'm not devastated as taking the positive that I can get pregnant but just hope I can hold on to the next one if it happens. My doc was very nice and supportive and said that while she didn't think it was anything sinister she would get all my bloods done. My progesterone was at 40 on Day21 which apparently is ok but then I read elsewhere that you should have 60
at stage to sustain a pregnancy. Hard to know! Ah well will keep trying

Those of you who have already been pregnant, has anyone ever had heartburn before it's even possible to get a positive test? I'm killed with heartburn all week, the only other time I had it was from about halfway through my last pregnancy. An app I have says it can be possible as soon as conception occurs due to hormone levels but I've never heard that before!

Hey all, for the first time in 5 months I've got a positive reading on an ovulation test! I know this is so minor but I feel so much more at ease knowing I'm ovulating, periods are also pretty normal and on time. Other than the obvious , anyone got any tips to make this month a success?!

If you haven't had any investigations done then find a different doctor who will do the blood tests, refer you to a gynaecologist etc.
