Quick question lads, thw declaration at the end of the license application where i sign, who has to witness it? Can it be my wife?

Also, there is an email address for npws, can i email them a scan of the application and letters or do i have to post them?

    Yup. Anyone.

Yup again. I do this every year and get my renewals that way in return.

Signed and sent. Any idea on how long it will take to come back? Local FO said he should get the substitute licence through in a week once the deer licence is back. id love to get out before this season ends!

Also how long is the deer licence valid for?

I usually get an e-mail within a couple of days to say it's received then the license arrives in August. I've never applied into a season so i assume they'll issue shortly after.

If you apply now, in this season, they'll issue you a 2015-2016 license which expires in August of 2016. Realistically (and outside of a section 42) it means you can shoot up until the end of Feb.

Then in May or June (can never remember which) you'll receive your renewals via e-mail (or in the post if they haven't added you to the mailing list), you get your returns and permissions done, send it back via e-mail and get your new license in August.

Perfect, hopefully get a few weeks of shooting before the end of February! Should be able to get on a section 42 on a farm in wicklow so that will be the summer months sorted

Sorry to hijack the thread - just a quick question.

If I was to aim to start hunting next Sept, when would I need to be sending in my application?

You can send it in now if you have all the permissions, etc. get a license that will expire this August OR wait until say May or so next year send it all in and they will issue you a license in August for the 2015/2016 season.

If you want to wait then keep an eye on the forum for when lads talk about getting their renewal letters from the NPWS.

Called today to make sure they received the application ok to be told they are only processing applications received on the 4th November!!

What will happen if i dont get the deer licence before the end of the season? Need ot to gwt the substitute licence for my new gun

You can ask them to review the application and grant a promissory letter that your application will be granted. This will serve as the deer license to allow you to get the rifle.

You won't get your licence or approval letter til at least middle of April,I'm in same situation,I applied for mine, mid November,I rang them on Wednesday gone by and was told they was processing November2nd,and that I'd not make licence for this year but I would get an approval letter to give to the super in mid march to apply for gun, then in the middle of the year ,npws would send me out an renewal form for next season

They seem to be a complete joke this year. I mean by the sounds of it the applications are up by 50,000 to say they are only on november 4th.

I would suspect it is down to staff cuts and double jobbing that has caused recent backlogs. For the first time in 30 years of firearms licensing I am now running into major delays and problems with my routine paper work and this has only come about since the change to the GS working hours and routine.

Good way to canvass for actually turning it into a money making exercise next year. They will suggest only way to speed it up is more staff, no prizes for guessing who pays for it...

I don't think its a case of just a lot more numbers applying either, For the first time ever I have actually heard they are following up on the information put down on the applications. Not saying it never happened before but people are genuinely having to prove the need for it and fulfilling the actual criteria.

They are. For years i've shot without a bother but last year i was rang after my application got delayed because of these checks being done. I got it resolved and had the license within the week, but they definitely are more diligent.
