I have one of these and they are the greatest thing since the sliced pan. Available in Currys

    http://www.currys.ie/Product/philips-hd923020-viva-airfryer-ink-black/322950/396.8

this is the digital version, its a fantastic price, you wont get it any cheaper I'd imagine as I paid €119 in the January sales last year in Currys and that was absolute steal.

    Another xmas present sorted!

Picked one up with currys UK - 75 pound (106 euro) plus few quid parcel motel. Can't understand why they still have price difference between UK and here. Good price though op.

Awesome deal in fairness, which can't be said too many times about Currys. :P

I got one too :o. I already have the cream non-digital one which I bought from Amazon for £99 3 years ago. Great machine, can't live without it! Will give the old one to my mother!

Anyone that bought it at the higher price, you can go back in and get the difference refunded within 7 days. That's policy.

Nope, but reviews are well and truly on the philips side of the fence. Reviews on boards are plentiful, as with Amazon, and theyre very positive. Could not let it go at a shade over €100, and definitely not for the digital version.

Did you have any problems with Irish credit card on the curry's UK order?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 767 ✭✭✭fmul9798

Scratch that, I see the Irish one matched it now.
    Thanks op!

Think I used an English one that I have.
Like you said the Irish site dropped the price this morning so better to buy from there.

I'd chance just returning it (or cancelling it before it's delivered) and buying a new one at lower price. Pretty sure nothing wrong with that. I remember doing that with a lawnmower in B&Q once

Hmmm.. I haven't used a fryer since the old days when they made a mess everywhere but oven chips don't cut it either :( Are these that much better/cleaner?

Completely different to the deep fat fryer. No oil needed.

I have mine a few weeks so I haven't tested it fully yet. I am not the best cook at all but the airfryer is so easy to use, fast and super easy to clean. Example of some handy meals I have tried: steak and chips in 15 minutes, 1.2kg whole chicken in 30 minutes and fish wrapped in tin foil with sauce and some par boiled baby potatoes lightly coated in olive oil done in 15 months.

Some people say its their best buy and I can see why.

Would you fit two reasonably sized steaks in there at once?

A couple of striplons maybe but nothing else. Need to be flat on the basket so the air can circulate around so can't stack stuff up.

About 13 minutes for medium at 180 degrees. I think I read somewhere that you can put onions on top for the last 5 minutes or so.

The steak tastes way better than frying in a pan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,061 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

Onions underneath so the grease stops them from dehydrating.

Of course you can, but you'll have to pay again while you are waiting on the refund. I'd try ringing, let them know your intention, and they might well apply a refund of the difference to your card. Amazon do it regularly. Easier for them too.

Called to shop to inspect. Is the basket not a bit small ??
I am looking to cater for family of four. Any opinions from users please ?

You won't cater for a family of 4 with this, this is a 1-2 person machine only.
There is a larger model available I think but don't know how much.

I cook two rib eyes there no
Problem as someone else said I cook them on a bed of onions and mushrooms both fit no problem. Go for it you won't regret it brilliant fryer.

    I did.

I emailed them this morning, and they said they will charge my card the new price rather than the old price , so no issues.

Just tried it there. Some potato cubes. Done in 22 minutes from cold with a tiny bit of olive oil and they tasted like chipper chips

Looking forward to cooking proper meals now

    Don't mean to derail but...
Would anyone have any input on the Philips AryFry in the OP put up against this one in argos?

    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/9066650/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CKitchen+and+laundry%7C14418476/c_2/3%7C19780844%7CSmall+kitchen+appliances%7C14418587/c_3/4%7Ccat_14418587%7CFryers%7C14418598.htm

After all the great reviews I'm thinking of buying one but I'm late to the party on knowing whats good about either.
    Any input appriciated.

Not the same one as OP, but a massive price for this bit of kit. Never been this low...ever.

I got the one in currys yesterday. It's still unopened. Is it worth the €30 more than the Amazon one?

Are chips really that good in it?

Some people claim theyre as good as chipper chips, where as others have been very disappointed.

Not sure wether or not to pull the trigger.

I'm in the process of trying to cancel the digital and have just bought this one - worse case scenario I return the digital. Great bargain :-)

Sorry to derail slightly but im looking for a larger capacity. Anyone any opinions on the Russell Hobbs 2litre for 69?

Currently in the process of trying to cancel the order to curry's. It's not an easy process. Tried emailing websales@currys.ie but emails are being returned with an error message. Then rang 1890400001 but they said only way is through email. So kinda stuck. Has anyone any ideas or maybe another email I could try

Some people report excellent results from homemade chips if you soak them overnight to get rid of starch then coat them with oil properly etc, I just skip all that and use Aldi Homefries or with a steak the Aldi premium thick cut, its really, really, good with oven chips, as in nearly raises them up to deep fat fried level. I couldnt stomach oven chips from our old oven, soggy, singed dehydrated dirty oven flavoured yokes, now I have to force myself not to have them 5 nights a week :D

Same for everything else like spring rolls, onion rings, chicken nuggets, southern fried chicken, scampi, fish fingers, fish cakes, full Irish, pork chops, steak, pork belly, roast chicken... anything you can think of, cooked twice as fast as the oven and no smoky burnt grease taste off any of it, just perfectly cooked food every time.

Downsides are it can be a pain to clean if you let the grease build up in the basket but a blast in the dishwasher usually cures it and it is small, its really the students or single persons best friend, but it can do the meat for 3-4 people if you do the veg elsewhere.
