I agree. Definitely no oil painting.

Does the standard m sport do android auto or screen mirroring?
Also, some seem to have full digital dash pod while other have physical curved sections outlining the Speedo.
Is the full digital one much nicer in reality?

I'm bringing one back from Holyhead right now - in fact I am typing this from Cafe Lafayette on deck 4! :D
If I get a chance I'll send you a video of the June 2018 one I've picked up (£28,960). It's got the M Sport Plus pack plus reversing camera which I saw as a must. I'll go through the different drive modes and show you how the display changes. Only have it a few hours so no doubt there will be a few things I've yet to find yet.

Lovely drive down this morning from Blackburn. Went into Sport mode for a couple of minutes but as I decided not to tax it for trip to Holyhead I quickly went back to Eco Pro! :D

Where did you buy? Ive looked at pretty much each one for sale.
Im of same thinking. Reverse camera is a must and rare enough in them im finding at the lower end of pricing.

Apple car play is a yearly subscription service with BMW.
Typical gouging from them unfortunately. Some people that paid up front got a notice subsequently that their car play was ending on a future date. I think some fought this and BMW relented but for now it is a yearly service.

Bazz, I think the M135i starts 52k but very easy to get to 60k plus.hate the grille too and the cerium grey bits in general. I think a black grille would be an improvement.

Android auto is fantastic. I doubt i will ever own a car without it. BMW just really went all in in to "we are dicks" mode by making in subscription. There is only hope others won't join in.

This one has a reversing camera, Harmon Kardon sound system, adaptive headlights and head up display plus it also has the adaptive chassis:

You can’t get android auto even with the subscription only Apple car play, wouldn’t be an issue for me personally as I’ll never move away from iPhones but it’s worth highlighting for android users.

Currently charging my 530e for the first time using the standard 3-pin plug. Started from zero km and after 2 hours the battery was up 19km, which I'll be honest I'm very happy with. Still intend getting a proper charger installed in the next couple of weeks.

Anyone on here recommend a company that installs home chargers and what can I expect to pay to get one installed with grant included?

Even though the battery range is quite small I was able to generate an additional 2km of range on the drive to work this morning. Battery started at 1 km and by the time I got to the office some 32 km away (M4 & M50 driving) there was 3km charge in the battery. That was in heavy stop/go traffic.

Maybe not earth shattering to all you lads who are up to speed on this type of thing but I'm in test mode here and it's interesting to me :D

    Edit: found this thread

Im wondering if there is much advantage at all in having a home charger compared to standard 3 pin plug for the likes of 530e. It is a slow charger regardless.

When I had 330e, I didn’t bother getting a home charger and never regretted not getting it. I charged to full every night and at weekends when I was home and wasn’t an issue. From memory the home charger did a charge in 1.5 to2 hours as opposed to 3.5 hours with the three pin plug.
Did you do a deal on one yet Mick?

No yet. Will have to wait for budget now.
Hopefully no immediate changes to greatly effect cost of phev.
I notice they don't like to move on price too much over there.
One main dealer was knocking 500 off. Another wanted his asking price in full.
I knew the car supermarkets were that way and to be fair, the main dealers are competitive on price over there so I guess I will have to pull the trigger in the next 10 days or so.

How much did the 330e add to your electricity bill monthly?
9 units per charge approx so something like 1 euro per day with night rate power.?

I don’t remember my electric bill increasing much, to be honest I didn’t monitor it really. From memory 20 or 25 euro a month. I came from a golf gti and reckoned at the time I was saving about a 100 euro a month in fuel costs directly after it. I didn’t buy it though for the savings more for the drive of the car itself which was very nice, I imagine the 530e is even better.

    New 2 Series Gran Coupe:

Is it me or those this just look like a normal saloon with frameless doors rather than a 4 door coupe? The shape reminds me sort of the old Volvo S60. I still cannot get past that over the top front grill.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,834 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I wouldn’t be a fan of the blue with the chrome on the first car but the second car looks a bit better.
Agree definitely touch of Volvo around the rear doors. The rear has way too much metal.
I don’t get why they feel they have to fill every niche in the market.

I sat into the new one series last week while our car was in for work and it looks much better in the metal and is a huge step up from the old model so maybe this will look better in real life too.

It looks quite similar to the Mercedes CLA in that pic above.

It’s basically a CLA competitor so no great surprise. Hope it looks better in reality than pictures. Rear very clumsy looking.
I can’t see too many being sold here.

On an unrelated note, I was in the limerick dealer last week and the lads have a M8 ordered for a customer for January. Over 200k and they were saying about 80k of that is vrt!

I said the same about the 1 series, but we're a country of badge snobs, it's a bmw saloon for sub 30kish, it'll fly out the door is my guess. Despite its fwd & awful looks

The Badge snobbery at that end of the market is laughable though. Buying one of them new like a one or two series , doesn’t scream look at me and my flash car. That’s screams I want approval but can’t actually afford something decent

Badge snobbery is laughable at any end of the market.
More laughable with lads driving stuff that qualifies for scrap against a leaf or something than anything new IMO.

I’d say bang for buck the 330i is nearly there for a lot less.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,571 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

You’d get tired of reviews mentioning e570 motor tax on a near eighty thousand car! That power on cc system would have been the e1809 rate ! That’s what we are used too. Somehow I don’t think e570 is a consideration. Funny they don’t mention eye watering depreciation in their articles!

They're speaking to 95% of their readers, who will go out & buy a new 60k 5 Series because of the 190 euro tax & ignore the 30k depreciation over 3 years. I'm constantly getting comments of "you are mad to be paying 1800 a year in tax" by people who buy 40k white goods every 3 years.

This blows my mind. A friend bought a new Nissan duke last year. Wants a new one now. Garage want to give her fifteen k less on her trade in , than she paid for it last year!!! On a fcuking nissan duke!!! God listening to people who don’t have a clue , does my head in. They’d be better off looking at the tco, than a total pittance like e270 or e280 motor tax!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,920 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

Yep, in reality €570 tax is nothing compared to what it used be. On the CC system you wouldn't tax an RX-8 for a year (€636) for that plus it has 31bhp more than the E46 M3 (albeit a bigger and heavier car with the XDrive) for feck sake which is €1,809 per year.

But yes, depreciation on that is a massive consideration given the small market for it second hand, let alone new. Give it three years and you'll buy it for less than 40k.

Also, mentioning that its Audi competitor being a better car (and diesel) shows that they are pandering to their Irish audience and it has a "diesel is better" bang off it.

    I would tend to agree.
The six cylinder petrol would be an attraction but in the real world the 330i is all you’ll ever need.
I would still have my eye out for a 2/3 year old one in a few years before electric takes over.
Any chance you could get a 330e to do a back to back real world test with the 330i?

I don’t think they have a 330e on press fleet yet. I’ve a 1 series coming up but that’s it for the moment.
