Nice car alright. Lovely car to run as a comfy daily.
They are obviously selling cars at the moment.
A 2016 silver low mileage 730d m sport I was looking at the other night is gone today.

I wouldn't personally buy a non lwb s class. Also the motor tax for the 3L diesel went to 570 from 2011 or 2012... I do realise that car has low mileage. Thsy look way better with amg pack. I'll pay e1200 for the 4.8 twin turbo s500 as next car, actually great value for power you get, but wouldnt pay e1200 for the 3l diesel. The a7 laughably alone 3 litre diesel , motor tax from 270

I saw that 7 series. It was a nice car and not too badly priced.
I was thinking to myself that the 7 was making more sense pricewise than a current 5 series if one was needing a 30d

Yes the tax is probably a factor in that car at the price it is as well as non amg and the beige colour not to everyone’s taste.
Funnily enough I would be the opposite on wheelbase and prefer regular s class or 7 series. The lwb shouts ex chauffeur car to me.

What price was it do you remember?
The current 7 series is a massive step above the current 5 series in the cabin, I’ve had both and there is no comparison. Very good value too.

With you 100% on the short wheel base being the more desirable. The SWB is manageable but try parking a LWB anywhere.

I think they were asking around 37k for it.

LWB all the way. 20 years ago, the SWB was the way to go as the wheelbase severely affected the look of the E38. The SWB was sportier looking and in general a more rounded looking vehicle.

Since the E65 shape onwards, the considerably larger chassis, pronounced bodywork and overall design hides the LWB much better. And it is a huge disappointment sitting in the back of a 7 and realising you have but an inch more legroom than a 5 series. Pointless going for the SWB, LWB all the way. The difference in luxury is remarkable. And if you can't park the SWB, 5-6 inches isn't going to make much difference!

Agree voodoo, rear leg room laughable in swb given size of the cars

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,793 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Wouldnt touch a Lwb. While id agree more recent models do hide the extra length better but you still get the impression that they are stretched versions of the initial design.
Sure if you intend to carry alot of rear seat passengers as comfortably as possible, the lwb is ideal but otherwise i dont see why you would go for it.

Azurite black M3. Such a stunning colour in the sunlight. A bit like CB but richer and more sparkle.

Maybe I come from a smaller town mentality, in big cities or the likes you *might* comes across two of the same model on the same road and think to yourself I prefer the look of one over the other. When you spot a super specced 7 on the road in the midst of Quasqais, the last thing you think of is "hmm, its a bit long is it?".

Other side of the coin, you can be sure the odd passenger will climb into a swb and think to themselves "oh, this is less roomy than I thought it would be". LWB has a wow factor, you nearly fall backwards as you get in there's so much room in the back.

Yes we all sit in the front, who cares about the back. I'd argue if you don't care, get a 5 series. :)

Spotted that the other day it's very tasty looking. Wonder how used prices will hold up.

    Be interesting to see alright.

Love that colour. The ceramic brakes look well but are not needed and a big extra cost come service time.

LWB all day, its only 700mm shorter than my LWB Transit and I know it needs a clean!

I have one of them aswell and that was the reason I went LWB on the W221. I have a W220 SWB and I have to move my seat in it for rear passengers as its tight in the rear if I don't.

I don't buy into the idea that a lwb 7 series is the main reason to own a 7 Series otherwise get a 5 Series. The 7 Series is a step up in comfort, luxury and refinement over a 5 Series, whether it be swb or lwb. Yes the lwb will have more rear space and creature comforts for rear passengers but unless you spend most of your time in the rear or you ferry rear passengers around for a living then your not going to really benefit from it from behind the steering wheel imo.

Ive not driven one but id imagine the lwb must be abit more bargy in handling terms.

To really impress those back seat passengers in the 7, you need lounge spec :D

Out of curiosity I got a new price quote from a BMW dealer on the M340i. Stock car price before VAT and VRT......€45,637 with metallic paint

    VAT: €10,496.51

    VRT: €18,009.13 :pac::pac:

Total after taxes before even looking at packs and options: €74,152

What a great little country to be a motorist.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭MarkN

    Jesus that A8 is sublime!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,904 ✭✭✭hooch-85

The VRT is calculated on the VAT inclusive price right?

The ad says that A8 is a 3.0 TDi but the badge on the boot says 50 TFSi:
