Carey on crutches with foot in boot after.

Would be standard enough until he gets a scan and sees a specialist. Probably won't find out until later in the week about the results.
worrying thing is he couldn't even put the foot on the ground when he walked off.
We're short for props, time for Pat to prove he was right to bet on Robertson-McCoy

    Squad update
Conor Carey sustained an injury to his foot in the Wasps game and is awaiting the results of a scan to determine the extent of the injury.

Dominic Robertson McCoy sustained a shoulder injury in training last week and is awaking the results of a scan to determine the extent of the injury.

Jake Heenan sustained knee and ankle injuries in the round 3 game v Wasps and is continuing his rehabilitation under the supervision of the medical and fitness team. It is hoped that he will be available for selection next week.

Stacey Ili sustained ankle injuries in the game vs Wasps and will be unavailable for up to 6 weeks.

    Ulster v Connacht
    Friday December 23rd
    Kingspan Stadium
    Kick off 7:35pm

Looks like we have a propping crisis looming. Tom may well have to cover LH again. Officially 18 players injured.

I'd expect Cooney, Robb and Loughney to feature over the Chistmas. Heenan won't be rushed back unless he's 100%.

Not sure about Robb but at the half time interview on Saturday Cooney said he hoped to be back for this weeks match

We could be really short in the front row this week if the Ireland camp takes bealham out of contention. I assume it will affect Dillane and our back three also.

Heenan back is great, maybe the best player in the province. But we're full of available back-rows. At least Muldoon, who played nearly every minutes this season, could have a rest, and SOB focused on 2nd row where we're lighter
McCoy + Carey out in the same time could be a disaster. Bealham to play 80 min against Ulster, Munster and Toulouse

Cannon/SOB are enough, Healy/Poolman/Parata (with Robb 12) too
Bealham just can't be rested, we have no TH left, IRFU must understand

Hopefully they'll show it. Think it's only on TG4 so might be difficult for them to swing it. Fired off an email just to see.

Ah FFS, who ends up with 19 injured players twice in a season before Christmas?

Rory Moloney played for the Eagles at the weekend so he can probably be taken off that list, wohoo only 18 players injured ;)

    Moloney is a flanker
We have smth like 25 players available, among them 8 or 9 are back-row players...

Yeah, put Moloney back on the list we don't need him. Take Ronaldson off it instead.

At least Ronaldson is expected to be back for Toulouse away, which is a huge relief to cover 10 and kicks

Life or death question lads: Is there any pub in Berlin that would definitely show the Munster match? Don't mind paying in to see it.

    Same question but for Brussels!

The 6 Nations pub. Watched a few games there a year or so ago.

Lads, we have to get John Cooney playing at 10 ASAP. Carty just isn't at Champions Cup standard....
Oh no, wait, sorry! That was last week. On boards.ie, as at the Sportsground, the wind can change very quickly. ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

Not in the list. Always, always said carty was ok at 10 and could even resist to Boshoff, but that we need another kicker. Won't change any point of that (despite wonderful conversions and some mistakes in open-play), and I'm happy Cooney/Ronaldson aren't far to be back, to play beside him (9 and 12)

As much as I like Cooney, and I really do, Marmion played out of skin in the two games against Wasps, and can't be dropped currently

Yeah Marmion quality is a big issue for our kicking to the posts
Problem solved in 4 weeks when Ronaldson is back!

At what point is Cartys kicking no longer an issue? He was 3 from 4 at the weekend including 2 touchline conversions, one under HUGE pressure, and as I posted yesterday he has been doing lots of work with kicking coaches and identified what was wrong with his kicking style and moved to fix it. I'm not saying that suddenly he's gonna be a 90% kicker but I think he deserves a bit more respect from us after his kicking performance on Saturday.

In fairness, his rep as a bad kicker was not earned on the basis of one game and it cannot be erased on the basis of one game either.

His stats flashed up on the screen at one point on Saturday, and correct me if I'm wrong, but he was 55% in the Pro12 and 45% in Champions Cup (or thereabouts). That's absolutely woeful.

Fair play if it has been identified and steps are being taken to make him better but he is not there yet.

Yep absolutely, that's why in my initial post I said he's not suddenly gonna become a 90% kicker. But if a couple of days after one of his best kicking performances doesn't mean we should still be knocking him about his kicking.

Personally I think posts should be a bit more tempered in relation to his kicking. My view is that his kicking has been bad but that he's working on it and he showed that he can nail them on Saturday so we should be cautiously optimistic about it. But if he doesn't keep kicking on, no pun intended, I'll be the first to say lets hand the tee over to Ronaldson when he's back

7 Connacht lads in 40 man Irish u20s squad for warmup games this/next week.

    Shane O'Hehir hooker
    Cillian Gallagher 2nd row
Sean Masterson & Simon Meagher backrow
    Ryan Feehily scrumhalf
    Luke Carty outhalf
    Colm De Buitlear winger

They're obviously doing something well in Sligo, another 3 in the list above with Gallagher the only survivor from last years quartet.

Brilliant. Buckley & Roux in particular would have offers. That's the spine of the squad secured until 2019.
