In that scenario the main q box connects via 2.4Ghz to the third party router, but the Sky Q operates its own 5ghz mesh network on channel 36. If any other router in its range operates on the same channel space it will cause issues with Sky Q.

I see, set my virgin hub to 56 and sky booster beside mini box.

    Hopefully no more issues

Can you join the boxes with an Ethernet cable or homeplugs?

Yes you can. You need to go into settings - network - advanced

    Select connect using wired network.

I have this setup for one of my minis that cannot get a strong enough signal from the mesh.

I tried homeplugs and couldnt get a I.P

I think you have to hard wire from the main box to homeplug then out from a plug into mini? Not from router to homeplug etc

Would it not be main skyq box to homeplug and homeplug to mini. Not sure.

    No.

I've the main box via WiFi and one of the minis is connected via homeplug to the network. I did a full reset of the mini when doing it.

Also on the hard wired mini highlight settings on the menu (don't select it though), hit 2001 and select/ok. This accesses the hidden installer menu. Disable both the wifi channels. Leave only the Ethernet selected.

Is that just hold in the reset button, make sure Ethernet is connected and start from stock?

I think I did a reset from the network menu and then a reactivate from the status menu.

I've got terrible internet, 5mb/s at an absolute maximum. I have cinema and sports and a +HD box atm, would Sky Q add anything to my viewing experience? ( I assume there is no possibility for me to experience 4K as things stand.) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I'm in the same boat , crap internet , so got sky Q
The 4K is limited at the moment,
    Sky sports mainly and F1.
There are some movies in on demand in 4K and some box sets.
The picture quality is stunning and SkyQ is a lot better than the old hd box.
Multiple recordings and a load of space on the silver box.
It's worth the upgrade in my opinion and 4K content only grow.

I took the jump to sky q last December. And don't regret it one bit.

I cancelled the my sky package and just set up a new one under a different name and got a good deal with sky q.

I'm only running about 8/10mb internet and since a few problems at the start, it's been perfect since.

I love the amount of space on the box, and the multiple recording feature. The layout and system is very good I find.

Also I've a mini box and I've it upstairs and can easily move it from room to room as it isn't a wired connection and runs over the sky q wifi mesh. Very handy.

I'm using more on demand stuff with the Sky Q box also.

As a matter of interest did you reorder your package within the 30 days notice period?

I cancelled sky, and ordered sky q then about 14 days later under a different name.

Took sky q about 10 days to come and get installed so fell in nicely when my old sky was about to finish.

Overlapped for about a week but I wasn't too worried.

I have sky Q and eir ftth using the F2000 router. Been having terrible wifi drop outs everytime i started up the laptop (could take 15 mins to get a stable connection) and one of the mini boxes was dropping out all the time despite being on ethernet to a switch that the main box was on.

I turned off wifi on all of the sky boxes and it seems to have resolved it. Has anyone else had wifi issues like this?

Have the occasional issue where the mini can't find the main Q box. But a quick reboot resolved the issue. Best thing to do is report it to Sky and have them look after it for you. After all the equipment should be working.

When it works as it should its a fantastic product. But ive had connectivity issues from day one and ive had them out several times. They kept telling my broadband was too slow for the system (I had two meg then) but this was wifi issues. Have 1,000mb now and still issues. Not good enough for €94 a month and the set up costs.

Think i will read through a few of the posts re home plugs. Never could get that to work but wasnt plugging main box into one so will try that at weekend. But upshot is, my eir wifi doesn like the sky wireless mesh.

It's 100% not a speed issue now or even before. The system operates based off your wifi signal. Is the powerline option enabled on these boxes now?

i know.. guy told me ethernet wouldn't work either until i showed him.

i have main box connected via ethernet to a switch which is also connected to a mini. A second mini i turned off wifi and turned on powerline and its working though i have not
tested for a long period. third mini i did same but its not working though i suspect that's because its powered via an extension lead... have a long power cable somewhere.

the wifi was driving me nuts but that seems to have been fixed by turning skys off.

Powerline option enabled on two minis and both working flawlessly, even with one of them through an extension lead. Main sky Q silver and third mini hard wired with ethernet. Wifi turned off on all four boxes and now the eir wifi is working perfectly. Seems like my setup and eir didnt like each other. peace restored!

Just on SKY Q, we have a problem with our multi-room HD box and need an engineer out. I am investigating upgrading to SKY Q instead but wondering about further costs after the initial outlay for installation.

Have new users found their bill increase by much? We currently have half-price HD and multi-room but it seems to be full whack with little wiggle room with Sky Q. It would be nice to get it and bypass the engineer call out fee but I'm just worried that we might be signing up to something that greatly increases the costs of current HD packages.

I have sky q. If you don't have a 4k tv I can't see much point in Charging. Even at that their 4 is very limited. Far better 4k content on the netflix and Amazon.

Phone sky about getting an engineer to call out. They say it's 100 euro. Tell them that you want to cancel your subscription. You get put through to the retention department and they will send out an engineer for free. I'm with sky 25 years or longer. I've never paid for an engineer

I just got Sky Q and was wondering how do you stop a programme when you have finished watching it? What happens is when the programme is over and I want to stop it straight away I can't seem to find the stop button. There doesn't seem to be a stop button like there was on my Sky HD remote. Any help would be appreciated.

There's a button on the left of the remote that will bring you back to the previous screen. If you press this it will stop the recording.

I'm getting this (and Sky Fibre) installed in a few weeks under their current €49 for both for 12 months deal. I don't really watch much live TV anymore to be honest but seeing as it's effectively free under the deal - why not? :)

I'm reading lots of issues with this Mini box, but as I'm only taking the main one, is it more stable at this point? Had Sky+ for years and it was grand really.

Also, anyone with their Fibre.. what's the router/WiFi signal like? Can you open ports on it or is stuff locked down? I work from home a fair bit and it would be useful to have more control over the setup.

    Cheers!

Is the Sky Q available as a stand alone box or do you have to take a mini with it does anyone know ?

You can get as stand alone box no problem however magic eyes via RF cable do not work if you want to watch it in another room.

Sky Q box is now the standard box for all new installs
