I must say, the footie today looked great in UHD, reminded me of seeing a HD game for the first time back in 2007

Netflix 4K seems a lot better ..the documentary was good and pixels not to bad but I could hardly tell the difference with forest gump..hope it improves.

I can't compare with Netflix 4k as my broadband isn't fast enough, although on my tv Forrest Gump was very good except for one scene with excessive grain/picture noise, not as good as The Big Cats which was fantastic, haven't seen Pixels yet so judging by others here and on other sites I'm in for a treat.

Is this available on demand yet? I can't see it on my box anyway. I looked yesterday around 2pm and couldn't see anyway to record this in advance.

Could it be recorded at the time it was on?

Sorry if this question has been asked. I am getting Sky Q installed soon. Can I keep my 2 old Sky+ HD Boxes or do Sky own them?

Engineer would not take mine even though I offered, you can keep them.

Don't know about on demand but it could definitely be recorded by going to sports and the UHD from the home screen. Didn't show up on my box until I did a reboot first.

It was on Sky Sports 1, UHD was available through the red button. But you could also record it in UHD.

Only getting around to looking in to Sky Q now and thinking about ordering. From looking at the site, are multiroom subs a thing of the past now and you just pay a one off €99 for each extra box (after the one they give you) and thats it? I have Sky at the minute with 3 extra boxes (4 total in the house) so if I was to replace it with skyQ is it just the SkyQ silver monthly subscription price(plus extras like sports etc) plus whatever number of extra boxes I need at the one off fee?

I've ordered BT sport and it is only available to view on the Silver box, I can't even watch something that I've recorded on the mini. Is there any workaround for this?

No, because Eir charge a dumb surplus fee for each additional box you want to use the package on and the Sky Q system isn't compatible with that architecture as it's based on viewing card numbers.

Is that like the Sky multi-room charge?

It's a separate charge that Eir have for access for your subscriptions on multiple devices.

Edit: I actually found this on another site. It might actually be possible:

It's not very clear there, and is a UK oriented case. I will try and ring Eir and see what they say.

It's absolutely clear that Eir is blocking it being used on mini boxes. BT Sports has allocated an additional fee in the UK non non viewing card access, is miniboxes, but Eir is failing to do the same. If they competed on superior service rather than restrictive practices they might create a successful business.

Quick question as a result of reading a thread about Sky Q alongside a freesat box, it was mentioned there that Q uses a different LNB, and if there are traditional boxes involved, Sky have to install a hybrid LNB to allow those boxes to still work.

I have a multiswitch here, with a normal Quattro LNB, and all the boxes are connected to the multiswitch. Will Sky Q work with that, or am I going to have to make massive changes if I want to move to Sky Q. I'm guessing that the different LNB for Q is to allow the box to get multiple channels on the one (or two) cables, and I'm hoping that the way that a multiswitch works should hopefully mean that the Q box will still work, but as I've come across that specific issue, I'd like to make sure that I'm not in trouble as a result of the mulltiswitch being in use.

    Thanks

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

In this setup a different type of multiswitch will be required, a dSCR multiswitch, which is compatible with both SkyQ and legacy satellite receivers. In SCR mode the multiswitch can feed a SkyQ box via single cable.

This poster had a problem with an installer who wouldn't setup SkyQ in his home with the new multiswitch but eventually got sorted

and if there are traditional boxes involved, Sky have to install a hybrid LNB to allow those boxes to still work.

There are limited stocks of hybrid LNB according to informed posters and so installers are reluctant to fit them unless the subscriber insists.

So 3 things about UHD. It can only be used on the silver box. Why is this.

    It's 2160, not 4k.

    Forest Gump looked meh.

Although the real test is the football at weekend

For broadcast purposes 3840 x 2160 is regarded as 4k UHD
ITU Recommendations on UHDTV standards agreed

The ITU-R Recommendation lays out the quality standards for UHDTV in two steps. The advances made with each of these quality steps are roughly similar to the step from the old ‘standard definition television’ to ‘high definition television (HDTV)’. HDTV pictures today have the equivalent of between 1-2 megapixels. The first level of UHDTV picture levels has the equivalent of about 8 megapixels (3840 x 2160 image system), and the next level comes with the equivalent of about 32 megapixels (7680 x 4320 image system). As a shorthand way of describing them, they are sometimes called the ‘4K’ and ‘8K’ UHDTV systems.

I had that bloody hdcp error on a standard sky+HD box. I replaced the hdmi cable and that fixed it. That's the short version of a very long long saga... Try a new cable to preserve your sanity.

It could be as simple as turning on one device before the other, to ensure they 'talk' to each other.

Some part of this explanation might help in solving the problem

Is there a new version of hdmi cable for sky Q?? Make sure you get right one. Lots of issues. TV's have to be new and you are ok in that department. Check software version as well.

    Look here for software version

I called them earlier, no help at all really. In fairness he knew it was a problem but had no idea when it would be fixed.

Got mine installed the other day in our new house.

Early impressions, remote is a bit fiddly, might just use the standard one instead.

P.S. Time to start saving for a 4k tv!

Happened me aswell, if you go into help it tells you which port to connect to. I have a Samsung TV so it was HDMI 4

    Thanks for the suggestion

I had at look at the UHD at the weekend and must admit I was disappointed. My HD picture up to now has been stunning. When I hit the red button I was told my TV wasnt compatable but turns out I had to switch to the HDCP 2.2 socket. So then I had to change the resolution on the sky box and ok the UHD looked alright but nothing special. However the problem was with my other channels. I spent ages tonight trying to adjust the picture but gave up. The PQ was so bad I changed back to the original HDMI socket and put the resolution back to 1080p. UTV had a purple sheen over it and the film Las Vegas on RTE 2 tonight just looked false, and people were popping out the screen and almost looked like CGI. Anyway, back to 1080p and all good again.

Just ordered Sky Q silver being installed next tuesday week. Dying to see how it works with my 8mb (approx) fibre line. As a side question is it only the mini boxes that really "use" the bandwidth?

Ordered Sky Q Silver myself the other day. Installation tomorrow, just in time for the new football season. Bought a new 4k TV too to get the most from it!
