    Have a look at this.

With all LED based lamps. torches, etc/ you're going to have a very bright light close to the lamp/torch. I've noticed if i use my Wildhunter torch for "everyday" things that i have to shine just off the item i'm looking at as the light is so intense that it essentially blinds me to what i want to see.

Another option, depending on how much light you want is this. I bought one for the Father for Christmas. I tired it out to check that it works. The battery already has a charge in it so i took it out the back of the house. The button has three on positions:
    1. Dim (not that dim)
    2. Bright
    3. Flashing/strobe

The lens of the lamp can be pulled in and out to give a flood lighting effect or narrow beam effect. It For walking you simply pull the lamp downward and it works on a rachet type system that allows you to set it to the angle you want.

Lastly the beam is adjustable as said above. It can go from large flood lighting effect to a narrow focused beam. The box claims 160 mtrs. Now as i haven't tested it yet due to it being a present i checked it at the back of the hosue. On the narrow focused beam setting i aimed at a stake i know to be 101 yards fro the back of the house. It was a dark night, drizzle and a touch of mist but it still was able to light up the stake.

It has the battery pack (lithium ion battery, single) built into the headband and is comfortable enough to wear for a bit. You just charge from the mains at home and you're good to go. If it's like my Wildhunter you'll get hours and hours from a single charge.
