    Mar 28th

15 miles 3 miles from house to St Anne's, 10 miles Brian Boru race
    2 mile C/D

Brian Boru 10 miles Gun time 76.10

Went into today hoping to dip under 75 mins, got on pace over first couple
of miles, but after mile 3 I began to struggle a bit and pace dropped, it
Was small enough field and became very strung out very quickly, lost focus
In this race and became bit of a slog early on, spent most of time running
on my own, had another Raheny runner in sight for most of race about 150m
ahead and couple of times considered trying to get up on his shoulder but
wasn't prepared to take it on, so really disappointed in myself, think mental
bit let me down today as hit avg 5.35 min pace in last 100 m or so, so plenty
in the tank at the end. Was messing with settings on watch this morning and
Recorded as 1 lap, so will have to get watch onto a laptop to see splits.

Suppose upside is nearly 4 min PB from last year, but down side is how much
of a slog it was. So lot of work needed on fitness, have signed up for K club
10 k in two weeks, has been brought forward one week, so think will knock
On head and get back on plan, as don't think much to be gained by racing it
at this stage. Another good thing bar slightly tight calf and slightly tight left
Hip which I stated with anyway and did not bother during Run, feeling quite
Fresh which only adds to disappointment.

It was a small field and very spread out. Tough going on loops. Live and learn as they say. 4 minute PB not to be sniffed at but you didn't look happy. FBOT01 has sweaty gloves for you.

Onward and upwards, G. I have always thought that this race looks harder than it should be. A lot of twisting and turning and as you found out it is easy to get isolated. Either way it was good workout and will stand to you in overall fitness terms.

Well done G. You ran the race and knocked 4 mins out of your pb. Whatever you might feel about the race at least it shows you are moving on in the right direction.

Tough day then G. Was surprised at the small field myself - see what you mean about getting isolated, which is never any fun at all. Well done on the PB anyway, something to take away.

A 4 min PB you say?: hurrah!! I know you're not happy but that's a good day out regardless - I did that race a couple of years ago - tough touugh tough so well done G

Well done Gary, serious chunk off your pb and don't forget there's a good 9 months (literally enough to create a lifetime for someone) left in this year so plenty of time to get more time off.

Cheers M, but bit of letting myself get isolated, kind off drifted, but suppose
maybe lesson for future. Thanks for support today.:)

Cheers D, 10 mile last year was first race over 10k so learning curb, just

Thanks D, as above I think kind of let it happen as well, have to learn to take
It on, as somebody said to me there are racers and pacers, also my son
Helpfully pointed out, the fellas at front have no one to chase. Cheers for support today.:)

Thanks, previous goes back before DCM last year, so probably should have
been little easier, but nothing that can't be worked on:)

Did I read it right above that this race last year was your first one over 10k? And you're annoyed with yourself today over a 4min PB... You've come a long way :D

    Thanks Anna
Frank Duffy last year & your probably right, but I think you know if's been a
good one, ran a better HM after it, so hopefully will move in same direction
    this year:)

Well done G, a 4 min PB shows that you are heading in the right direction. Keep up the good work.

With so many twists and turns it wasn't a fast course so I wouldn't be too critical on yourself. I experienced similar problems getting isolated with the small field.

Cheers C, just in bit of pissy humour yesterday as missed target for last two races, but for different reasons, so will keep at it.

Thanks G, just one of those days, got bit of stitch between 3-4 miles, didn't
last to long, but lost focus and just let it pass me by a bit, all learning curb.

Just catching up. Sorry to hear you're disappointed but that PB is a great sign of the progress you've made over the last few months, lots of positives to take away. You can bottle this feeling for your next race then as well and learn from it and use it to drive you on if you need to find that mental edge. Hope the niggles are at bay.

    Tues 29th Mar

    4.3 miles 9.32 avg recovery

Short trip around the block before work, calf little tight.

    Friday 1st April

    16 miles 9.03 avg 2.24 hrs

Headed to ST Anne's for this to rest body from all the hard concrete path running
left hip and calf little niggley still, slow first 5 miles wasn't really enjoying, picked
up pace and posture after 5 and rest of run breezed by, forgot about any niggles
for most part, had watch set up for 9.30 a mile, but just got into nice rythem
after first 5, no running Wednesday or Thursday due to suit fittings and wedding
Rehearsals, will squeeze few more in over weekend, some AIS and foam rolling
on cards also, getting very lazy on this over last Month or so and it tells.

    Splits 9.44 9.17 9.24 9.23 9.30 8.51 8.31 8.52 8.48 8.44 8.46
9.34 call of nature, watch recorded as on pace even though stopped
8.40 8.35 8.11 9.43 last mile zig zagging across football pitches as
arrived back to car nearly mile short, hard to plan a route in a park,
not that usually give it whole lot of thought just rough idea of distance
    from past runs.
