How many games do folks think we can get away with losing from now? It's likely we'll lose at least 3 I think unless there's a drastic change in the players. Might be enough to edge it provided no one else finds proper form.

In such a crazy season its hard to say. One thing we have going for us this year is we are not drawing many games so that helps a lot and could maybe afford an extra loss

    Was thinking about this earlier.

If we repeat the same amount of points from first half of season then surely only City could finish ahead. Means they would need 42 points from 19 which is certainly possible.
I guess we probably need 42 ourselves which would be something like 13 3 3.

We have lost 4 already in the first half of the season.
The second half will be harder with tougher away games to come.
We could still lose another 4 or maybe even 5 and win the league with 76/78 points if others continue to drop points too. It's an amazing season.
As someone already said it's our best chance in years. Wenger seems to think so too hence the announcements that we will be busy in January.

My fear with this is Citys brutal away form cant continue surely.
They havent won an away game since September.

true. but if we were to lose another 3, that would mean losing 8 in total - can't remember a title winning side losing any more than 5 or 6?

This sort of thing gets trotted out a lot, but I think it's irrelevant myself.

It's how many points you get, not how many games you lose. A win and two losses is as good as three draws provided you're not losing to rivals.

It's going to be the lowest points total to win a title in a long time, Arsenal could well get 78/79 points and still take the title. 79 points got Arsenal to 4th place two years ago, and 83 points was only good enough for 3rd in 07/08. I wouldn't pay any attention to number of games lost.

I think Arsenal are capable of the 80 point mark but probably not much more than that given the poor results to the likes of Southampton, West Brom etc. being too frequent. The title will come down to whether City get their shít together or not, if they break 80 they should take the title.

    No sh1t Sherlock!

You're right of course. But usually, when a side loses 8 games they're not good enough to win the league. That's all I'm saying!

Normally when you are as far ahead of Chelsea or United as Arsenal currently are you have already won the league.

Not a normal season this one.

Very curious to see what Wenger has in store for Arsenal especially seeing as the lad from Basel seems to already be essentially done yet Wenger says he will be very busy trying to bring players in which surely means he has more in mind and perhaps they are very likely targets as it isn't like Wenger to say so otherwise.

yeah, it's intriguing alright. With the team doing well, I can't help thinking we'd be much more attractive to some of the big names that would have shied away in the past.

Will be really good to get some of the injuries back as well - that's been very frustrating this season.

First time I can remember off hand that Wenger has come out and said he'd have a busy transfer window. Always a good sign. Looking forward to seeing whether we sign this lad from Basel, heard nothing but good things about him so far.

I'll believe it in February. He could easily be busy wasting time or having familyover.

Normally when you draw 12 games you're not decisive enough to win the league.

Just seems a bit silly to me, is all.

Encouraging words from him re getting bodies in - I think he probably sees it as **** or bust for the title now so will probably try his best to get deals done. By the sounds of things I think we're looking at 3 in and 1 out in Debuchy (though I really don't agree with this; an injury to Bellerin and we've Chambers in there and he'd get destroyed against any decent winger).

Elneny, Nolito and someone we've never heard of sound like what we'll see happen. Essentially short term solutions and I'd personally be making a play for Reus or Griezmann in the summer (hopefully as a title winning club it'd be easier to sell to them) as I don't think the top quality forward we want is available. Make do with Giroud, Walcott and Welbeck and just have world class players on the flanks and in the #10 position.

Bear in mind we'll be losing Flamini, Arteta, Rosicky, Woj and likely Debuchy in the next 6 months. So a good deal of rebuilding to do in the summer - none of those out on loan would be likely to make the squad next year. Maybe Jenkinson and perhaps Emi Martinez as back up keeper.

Hopefully we make some decent moves this window, not just the usual Arsene around.

    Eh? Eh? Anyone?

23 km covered in a match! That's a lot of energy!

That's about average or a little below.
Maybe it indicates that he stays in his position and does his job which is what we want.

It's actually significantly above average my crispy friend. It'd have had him 4th in the distance charts from last years EPL. Interestingly we had no one in the top 15 in that.

Thought it was about 12 kilometers per game but i could be wrong.
Anyway we need a DM and if he's doing more than average then that's good. As long as he's doing his job.

Don't want to put a dampener on things but the guy may not get a work permit. He doesn't play in one of the top 6 leagues in Europe and may struggle to get the necessary points. This would then mean going through the appeal process so it won't get sorted quickly.

10-11km for midfielders is average. Anything from 10.8ish+ has you in the top 20 or so.

He's well in Internationally though and afaik didn't they make the process an awful lot easier there lately?

It feels nice when football is going your way. Like if you're having a ****ty day and you realize "Huh.. We're top of the league!" it kinda gives me a little euphoric kick.

And no.. I've not been drinking :pac:

They now use a points system based on league player plays in, salary he's on, how far player has reached in champions league and size of transfer. Not looking good

I'm sure Wenger would have factored all that in before making his move.

    He'll get the permit.
The old rule used to be that the player needed to play in 75% of their national team's competitive fixtures in the past 2 years. Elneny has played in 100% of them.
Given the amount of caps + games in the CL/EL he should get one pretty easily.

Sure Bertrand Traore for Chelsea played less international games for a lower ranked country and was given work permit under new rules.
