What are the most satisfying revenge kills in movies?

Mine would have to be The Princess Bride.
Inigo Montoya killing the Six Fingered Man who murdered his father.

What are yours (and please be wary of spoilers)?

John Wick - the entire movie.

When the father kills Mogwai on the mountain after he killed his son in the The Last of the Mohicans.

Pulp fiction, cant remember if you see Marcellis actually kill Zed but you know he is going to get what he deserves.

Not sure if the two men in Casino being burried alive was a revenge kill? Havent seen it in so long. The actual killing really gave me chills.

I first watched Braveheart when I was 10/11 and the revenge on the Lord who killed Wallace's wife was all kinds of epic.

Always felt let down by the second revenge killing for some reason.

The movie Sleepers jumps out at me...
Kevin Bacon's character getting shot in knees-he ****ing had it coming as well

Maximus sliding the knife into Caesar's throat at the end of Gladiator - I don't think I've wanted a villain to meet his maker so much as in that movie!

Also agree with that scene in Last of the Mohicans. Another one for me is in Apocalypto when Jaguar Paw gets his revenge on the guy who called him 'almost'.

Really enjoyed Chris Penn's delivery in True Romance...

William Munny reverts to type at the end of Unforgiven.
Montgomery Clift getting even with Ernest Borgnine in From Here to Eternity.
"Prove it." Shane and Jack Wilson at the end of Shane.

When the father kills Mogwai Magua on the mountain after he killed his son in the The Last of the Mohicans.

Last of the Mohicans/Jungle Book mash-up, I want to see this film! :pac:

That whole last sequence in The Last of the Mohicans is genius, and it has to be one of the greatest film revenge kills ever. Great choice!

You beat me to this one by 3 minutes

That scene, perfect revenge kill. That is how you do it, makes him look straight into his eyes before delivering the final shot.

The departed, walburg taking out sullivan (matt damon) at the end. What a horrible character- well acted by damon in fairness.

Probably a million I'll think of after this. Not a film, but....

Omar Little and Brother Mouzone plugging Stringer Bell at the end of season 3 of the Wire.

One im thinking of with a bit of a twist that makes you go "ah ****" is "Fallen" with Denzel Washington.

You get the "yay" moment at the end when you think his plan has worked by killing himself and that he is outsmarting the demon but it doesnt quite work out how he planned.

I have a soft spot for all the revenge kills in the film 'death wish'

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,162 ✭✭✭MadDog76

Kill Bill .............. the whole movie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,815 ✭✭✭SimonTemplar

This is not necessarily a revenge killing for a single act, but rather for the sense of uneasiness and general nastiness this character created in an already tense situation
Toby Jones shooting Marcia Gay Harden's character in The Mist. She was spouting so much vitriolic BS her death was extremely satisfying.

I saw the film three times in the cinema over a few weeks, and each time her death caused a spontaneous round of applause from the cinema, which I thought was pretty rare.

I know the film is 17 years old but... Spoilers! Please!

It would be difficult (maybe impossible) to post about a significant scene in a movie ie. a revenge killing without spoiling the movie for anybody who hasn't seen it already ......... if posters were to avoid "spoiling" a movie when posting on this thread then the thread would quickly become redundant.

It would be like starting a thread called "Favourite Ending To A Movie" then asking posters not to give away the ending!?!!?!

    spoiler tags, everyone is happy

    Mad Max
revenge on Johnny at the end

You missed my point ......... with this thread every post would have to be wrapped in "spoiler tags" which would make the thread redundant.

Surely a better approach with this particular thread would be a "spoiler warning" in the Op?

    John Doe Se7en

    John Doe Se7en

Excellent example of a revenge killing .......... the question is who is most satisfied by the killing?

Detective David Mills because his wife's murder is avenged ........ or John Doe as his plan worked out perfectly??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 935 ✭✭✭Whitewinged

Well not a film but definately a revenge killing, Cartman and Scott Tenemans parents.

    John Doe Se7en

Really? I found that quite dissatisfying (which I think was intentional).

As Somerset says, "If you kill him, he will win".

A question I've already asked .......... thinking about it now maybe everybody is satisfied?

John Doe is certainly satisfied that his plan came to fruition .......

Detective Mills is satisfied that he did the "right" thing in killing John Doe .........

I remember when watching it the first time thinking that if I was in Detective Mills position I would have done the same thing so I was satisfied that justice had been done .........

I'd even suspect that Detective Somerset would not shed a tear at the loss of John Doe's life ..........

Once I knew what was in the box I would have done what Mills did, so therefore I found the revenge killing most satisfying as I'm sure John Doe was satisfied that his master plan was executed to perfection!

I wonder, what are we to assume happens to Detective Mills after the film? Is he arrested to murdering an unarmed man who was not endangering his life in any way?

I imagine he would be. He may not serve jail time, but his career - in addition to his personal life - would almost certainly be in tatters.

I think upon finding that his wife, as well as his unborn child (if I remember correctly?), are dead then nothing else really matters to Detective Mills ........ there was nothing left for him to do on this earth except avenge his loved ones murder.

Mad dog and Makeemlaugh are having a full conversation about a whole scenario of a movie that i have never seen and im not complaining.

I would imagine the thread is supposed to generate conversations about the revenge scenes rather than people just listing movies.

Pick any of them from Taken, though my favourite is "You don't remember me. We spoke on the phone two days ago."

The tattooed pimp in The Equalizer ("you should have taken the money").

Hartigan and the yellow bastard in sin city.

Not a death as such, but I love when De Niro's briefly former gangster cum priest character threatens the stepdad after he puts the kid in hospital:l
