Is Damian Dempsey Boring?

I do not get his appeal. The most clichéd lyrics about tired old subjects we have heard a million times before and he is supposed to a 'people's prophet'.

Like no one ever wrote a song about life being **** before him.

I honestly can't see why he is considered so amazing.

He's the equivalent of an orang-utan in a suit - well-heeled Meeja Luvvies and other types who profess to love "Working Class" stuff without actually knowing anything about it think he's terribly clever and authentic an' shít.

I had the misfortune of seeing him at Oxegen in 2006 and the amount of scumbags that come alive for "Damo" is unreal. Thankfully I have avoided him since.

I don't think he's awful or anything but I don't think there's anything interesting about his music and I don't like his voice (not the accent) either.

I really like Damien Dempsey as an artist. I think he brings a really energy to the stage when he performs, unlike any other artist I've seen. I leave his gigs with a real adrenalin buzz. I think you have to see him live and particularly in more intimate venues to appreciate him. I can see a real progression in his work over the past number of years, both in terms of his voice and in the quality of his songwriting. The older stuff stands the test of time too in my opinion. He doesn't take himself too seriously and isn't afraid to be self deprecating on stage, unlike some other Irish artists in particular, but you can also tell that he is dedicated and puts a lot into his work. Different strokes for different folks. I don't like One Direction, so there's that.

Damo is one of our best artists. Yeah some of his stuff is cliché but I can forgive that for the heart, soul and passion he puts into his performance.

He's a class bloke as well, no air of self importance from him.

Seize the Day & Shots were good albums...everything since hasn't been great.
Saw him in Roisin Dubh around 8 years ago...was an unreal gig so as a live performer he does (or at least did) have a lot going for him.
