Because..............homelessness is caused by lack of houses?:pac:

    What?

The majority of people who are homeless right now are homeless because of a housing shortage, primarily in Dublin. Even if you have money finding a place to live in Dublin at the moment is extremely difficult. If you are relying on rent allowance your chances drop to near zero.

Most homeless right now aren't sleeping rough, they are in temporary emergency accommodation provided by the council.

More accommodation would also result in a drop in rent prices.

It always amazes me that people think there's some degree of choice in ending up in poverty or homeless. Whether people like it or not personal circumstances and upbringing, variables out of people's control are the largest determinant.

Maybe but personal choices also play a factor in it, some people always want someone else to carry the can for them and expect the Government and indeed the taxpayer to carry them through life.

Yep but a very small percentage. I often find those most vocal about the poor have been carried through life by their parents.

Some people have very poor self management skills and are homeless as a result of a failure to plan and budget. Some simply sit and wait for someone else to solve their problems for them.

38k mortgages in serious arrears. Banks have told Central Bank they're definitely going after 22k of them. Regardless of how those people got into difficulties I don't think it's politically expedient to have that number homeless. The issue will have to be addressed by Govt.
