What lamp is it? Is it rated for 100W bulb?

The battery Amperage rating tells you how much power the battery has. You could have a 12v 100 amp battery and it won't blow a 12v lamp/bulb.

But put 12v into a 6v lamp and say goodbye to the bulb.
But you could put 12v into a 24v lamp but the bulb will be dimmer.

+1 to what clivej said I'll just add putting a 100w bulb in a lamp that only rated for a 50w bulb won't work right either. Draws too my 'power' IIRC & may damage unit and/or wiring.

clive is right .And as I had asked ''what voltage is the bulb rated for?!!'' was for a reason....Im a sparky I know what im on about

It could be any of the reasons posted here in reality & I'm rocket scientist but I don't like to brag about it much :p

The Lightforce 140 is rated for a 50w bulb whereas the Lightforce 170 is rated for 75w IIRC (I'm open to correction & am too lazy to Google it :p ) & to put a 100w bulb in a lamp designed for a 50w bulb will/could lead to problems like overheating of the unit &/or wiring.

    Clive is correct.

In any application, the load (the bulb) will only ever draw it's rated power as long as the voltage level is correct.
So if it's a 12V bulb, you can use absolutely any 12V battery you want.

As BB says above though, you must respect the maximum load (bulb wattage) that your lamp is designed to handle - higher power bulbs draw more current, and if your circuit can't handle that current it will overheat and damage itself.

The question the op asked was that he was told that if his battery was above 20amp it would blow a 100w bulb. The answer as stated was what voltage was his bulb as that is the vital bit of missing info.if given that bit of info and asked was for eg a 'lightforce 120' model able for this he would have got another /different answer in relation then to whether his setup ie wiring could handle the current going to be drawn in the circut.

big bangstick , if this ..
''I'm rocket scientist but I don't like to brag about it much''
is intended at me as i I stated im a sparky then keep your smart comments to yourself.I stated im an electrician to lend weight to what I said as I know what Im talking about .
