    Or this UK import.

€1950 gets you a 1.9 diesel with the multitronic gearbox and an NCT to 10/17, if you can live with the mark on the door.

Just out of NCT, but this is a steal if it needs nothing. No hitch, but surely that would only cost you a few hundred?

    Linky

Long NCT, no hitch, engine a bit bigger so a few hundred more tax, but very, very good value for money

    Linky

That Volvo is lovely! The Saab is fine, probably more realistic if I'm trying to ween off spending

As for tow-hitches, with the quotes I got to put a hitch on the E39 I could have bought an entire second E39, that's why I'm looking around. I do have a strap bike rack as well as the hitch one, so this is about minor inconvenience rather than a big deal.
In your particular case a 130bhp mk4 golf van makes alot of sense from an economic perspective.
Cheap tax, reliable, comfy and pokey enough.
(remapped itd be alot faster than an auto 525i)

Interesting. I'm not crazy on VW's but I'll keep an open mind.

Looks good, diesel, and as big an estate as you'll get. 7 months NCT, €1750

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/mercedes-benz-w210-estate/14889878

Looks like the Mk 4 Golf would fit snugly into the boot there! Rough example, but that model worth looking at.

On looking for >=2007, I just rang the insurance company and it turns out there's no difference to my insurance based on year from what I can see - they wouldn't say it outright, but I checked cars from 2004-2007.

Edit: I got them to check the 2006 Saab 1.9L and the 2007 Volvo 2.4L that Unkel posted, plus that nice grey 2004 Alfa GT 1.9 that was posted a couple of pages back - all the same quote as I'm on right now.

Moving to a 2005 2.2L Nissan X-Trail would drop insurance cost by around 4% (i.e. no change). My conclusion is that for my particular profile, the car year doesn't seem to matter a whole lot - between 02-07 at least (nor does BHP appear to).

Would you reckon the mileage is right on it?

I wouldnt be surprised if it was right -the people that owned it live and work in South Co Dublin, 3 miles to work /school & back daily.

Once you're over a certain age with a full NCB, you can get quotes on any car of any value with any engine, and the premium doesn't make much of a difference :D

Was that as an existing customer or as a new one?

I've had this problem before. They were happy to take me on with a Mitsubishi FTO as I was an existing customer in mid policy but once renewal came around they hiked it up considerably, they blamed the age of the car but it was 12 years old when I got it and it was still 12 years old on my renewal.

That V50 is great value .
Do they suffer from dpf issues ?
Is dpf removal an nct fail ?

If you want a decent sized estate the V50 won't work. Small space that's hard to use fully. Good cars as well, but not suitable for very tall people.

An Uncle of mine has a 2005 one of those. Only the 1.6 petrol but he has about 270k km on it and it runs like a clock for him. He bought it new and its been perfectly reliable. Funny how you can get lucky like that... :)

Just to totally miss the point of that post ^ but reg numbers started at 200 back then :)
€325 or something for a reserved reg.

For some reason I'm associating that car with Bill Cullen.

Oh no, wait. It was the car Bawn Motors was giving away for ages.

I will eat my hat if that has a full service history :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

I once went to view a car with supposedly full service history. A few stamps in the car manual.

Nothing unusual about that if I bought a car brand new and didn't know much about cars I too would get it serviced by the main dealer with it stamped but claiming full service history and a few years stamps in the book is another thing.

    Well, hello.
This will go up for sale fairly soon so I thought I might post it here first just in case any boardsies are interested in it at all.

2003 Citroen Xsara 3 door coupe
1.4 petrol engine - more responsive than other same size engines of the same era that I've driven, also gets good MPG.
    Leather seats front and back
    Fog lights
OEM radio/CD player with steering wheel controls
    Electric windows
    Electric mirror (for passenger side)
2 keys - one of which is a remote flip key
    158k miles on it

    Recently it has gotten;
    New oil and oil filter
    New wheel bearing
    Front brake calipers serviced
    Headlight repaired and aligned

I will put two new tyres upfront and it'll be sold with a fresh NCT.

    Open to offers.
