Price is strong for a car still nearly 9 years away from vintage tax. That's still €6,000 motor tax due on the old system first :(

But it looks like it is a good car. The ad does inspire confidence.

I came across this one last night. I'd be more inclined to go for that for similar money. Not a 7 seater and basic spec though. Officially import it next year (€200 VRT) and tax it for €56 per year.

Refurbish wheels, a bit of tlc
Touch up paint around bumper and a valet.

If got for 1800 one could do that for under 2k.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,812 ✭✭✭✭bear1

The 250s are supposedly not too bad on fuel if you take it handy.
Would gladly take that over the diesel version.

That started off for sale at €3500 a few months ago

No ownership changes in the last 3 months anyway.
I'd say if it's has had such a price slash then the seller is desperate to sell (cash for xmas?).
Throw in a cheeky 1200e offer and flog it off next year for the same amount :)

    Indeed it doesn't.

I didn't post it as such though. It was more a comment aimed at someone interested in buying the S124 that tc20 suggested. My point being that a car soon qualifying for vintage tax might not cost a lot more to buy (and would save you thousands in motor tax in the near future)

How would you identify a genuine set to reps? Just out of curiosity.. :)

Genuine ones will be stamped with the manufacturer's mark, also a part number especially on oem alloys and the corresponding country of manufacture (italy, Germany etc. )

Also reps tend to be heavier and yet despite this they also tend to be weaker.

'03 CLK 320 auto asking €1,750. Claims to have a fresh NCT last week although it doesn't state expiry date. They also seem to be claiming it's taxed until the end of the month. It was up for almost €3k the other day, would have been a €70k car when new, I guess that's what €1809 motor tax does.

Came across this page on Facebook today: Cars under €300

Surprised to see a number of them have NCTs eg. '97 Saxo Tax 11/16, NCT 8/17 asking €100

Might be something decent there, then again might be all heaps . . .

Obviously be very careful checking the log book

Yeah I'm on that page, there's a lot of rough yokes and people on it.

Also worth doing an online check of the NCT status, just to be sure that it's legit.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

What are the mercedes c180's like. Would they have same engine and gearbox as a mercedes E200 of same year, say a 2006 model of both.
I like the Mercedes E200 but does it make sense to have a bigger and heavier car?

I think in general they are regarded as being poorly made.
Rust was a big issue I believe.

I think they were meant to improve a lot after 2005? Anyone previous owners like to share their thoughts?

It's a dark side of motoring I would say.

Some, if not most of these car will never be insured but driven to the ground and abandoned...

Can I throw my own banger on this thread?
    Lots of power and comfort.
Might suit someone who can do the odd job themselves and with the ability to change a timing belt.

    Is it starting/running?
It will rot in your drive if it wont start. Spend a few quid, get it running, as you say its only a small job.
Forget about selling it for parts. A scrap yard "might" give you €100.
Its got a decent bit of NCT, you'll shift it for 500 alright, but only if someone can drive it away and not worry about it for 6 months. This is what happens at this end of the market

    Thanks for the advice.

    It is jump-starting.

I've been away from home for the last 2 months.
Took it for a 15 minute drive before I put the ad up. Feels like a coil pack is gone.
Was dead as a dodo when I got home, so may need a battery.

If I have no interest by the weekend I'll borrow a battery charger and look for a youtube video on how to change a coil.

Not really on this thread, but there is another thread for fixer uppers!

But seeing as it's here already, why not stick in a battery and a coil yourself (about €100 in parts) and give the car a good clean? You should get a good bit more for it then.
