Ads the best part. Has improved though.

The ads were great, the rest of it was average enough.

Some good attention to detail, like the really old RTE Sports theme music.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

I never saw such an awkward looking audience as the LLS were standing up to the Ireland song!!

Angeline Ball looked lovely in the middle of it all!

The dubbed penalty shootout versus Romania was well done.

I enjoyed it ,a bit hit and miss but still funny.
    The old ads were great.

Enjoyed the Mick Byrne bit at the start!
    The ads were class tho!

I love the way he does Des Cahill, all the mumbling, brought me back to one of my fav Apres Match sketches

No sign of this yet on the RTE player, anyone know if it's going to be on it?

They had a tweet that due to rights issues for the actual football coverage, it won't be on the RTE player.

Quick reminder that the next episode of this is on tonight (at 9.55pm)
Barry Murphy, Risteard Cooper and Gary Cooke take a fresh look at the national team's past glories, including a look back at Liam Brady's debut against the USSR in 1974

It won't be repeated or available on the RTE Player, so you would need to record it or watch it live. live.

Are these characters fictitious or did they actually exist.

    TV license ad is funny.

TV license ad is funny .

Not in position to watch at the moment but.....Liam Brady's 1970's hair did exist - it sued for divorce and went on to have a semi-successful career as a Hollywood villain.

Enjoying this. The Liam Tuohy co-commentary during the highlights is very funny.

Don Cockburn - a blast from the past

That was very good. Only thing wrong with it was it was too short.

Great idea to do the ads of the time too.......oh, and the Riordans

Appreciate humour is an individual taste but I thought that was dire and I was actually at the game. Half day at school, really great game but what was funny about that?.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

hope you weren't on the roof

did you see that, no health & safety in them days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,133 ✭✭✭FloatingVoter

The players did have great thighs in them days, Bill. Like oaks, they were. Fit men. Hard men with flowing locks...and great thighs. Good on the balls, like.

That was great! (missed last week's)

How many loo rolls were sacrificed in the cause of that win? Something I hadn't even realised you don't see any more......

    Solomon Grundy's!!!

On a serious note, you can now see why Brady and Giles are less than impressed with our glorious performances.
C.C.C.P. - some class of sponsor them, must have defected to Greystones to avoid having their hands broken by Brezhnev.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,048 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    Next week - Irl-Italy 1994 - my pal's wedding day, best wedding I was ever at :D

    That'll bring back some memories!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,133 ✭✭✭FloatingVoter

Italy @ Giants stadium.. .. pissed off my skull and sticking my head through a pub ceiling after dancing on tables went wrong. Would have been a highlight except for the lad who road a motorbike through the front door of same pub and halfway up the stairs.
We partied hard. We partied well.

Could this be coming out on DVD in the future, perhaps?

The ads are my favourite part too,but twas good to see clips of Giles,Brady,Heighway and Givens and co. back in them days

As would many. I don't see why a quick edit with still pictures of 1970s Giles, Brady, Brezhnev, Charles Mitchell et al. wouldn't do with same commentary - then put it up on the Player...it'd serve as a huge ad to tune in live next week.

"He's getting stuck into Matviyenko - Get ou' of your lazy bed"

An obscure 80s reference in a 70s parody. Lovely stuff!

Actually watching the repeat, the lads are smoking in the studio, aren't they technically breaking the smoking ban.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr
