Mixed bag comp

I'm not speaking about everyone, nor am i directing this at anyone in particular, but i won't be running one this year.

Last years one was a joke. Over half the people that wanted the comp never posted an entry. There was complaint after complaint about entries and the validity of them. bitching, moaning, etc. It ruined the comp and destroyed the good faith basis that it runs on each year.

So if you want to run one, knock yourself out, but i won't be running it or entering one. Which is a damn shame as they ran for years without any problems and where fun to be part off.

Cass I understand it's annoying with people entering and not bothering so if anyone is interested il take charge of it and only twenty people can enter and it'll be twenty people who've participated in previous comps

That is the least of my concerns. Every year there were people that would enter their names but not take part. Some would even stop after a few weeks/months. That doesn't really bother me as it's free to enter, take part in, or leave. This year though, over a third never bothered. Then the longest tail comp that a good few asked for. Only 2 entered, all season.

The bigger problem was the attitude of some people (i have to stress not all or even the majority). They complained about the entries of others, complained about the veracity of the entries of others, and over the course of the comp it became clear why. They were not leading or winning and were attacking those that were close to them in terms of scores, and hoping to have the scores of others reduced or disqualified.

Then there were some entries that even i could see were doctored. Some were the same animals with a new date, some were the same animals but in different numbers. By that i mean a lad entered 10 rabbits, then would wait a day, and enter the same ten rabbits with a new date on the piece of paper, or use some/all of the same rabbits in the next photo. I only fond this out when i seen a certain entry where one of the animals had a distinct marking on it (not regular at all) and it showed up the next day in a "new" entry. The other give away was the photo had the date on it, but it wasn't that date. IOW someone took pictures of their entry and posted them. However i could see the dates of (example) 9th, 10th, and 11th of the month on the bit of paper or whatever was used when it was only the 9th of the month.

I hate to have to write this. The comp has been running for a few years now and was always bit of competition with each other, but first and foremost fun and a bit of craic. Seems like everything else it only took a couple to ruin it for everyone else by turning it into a pissing match, one which they did not like when they did not get their way. Frankly, and excuse the language, but it's a f**king disgrace for grown men to act that way.


If i thought there was some way to weed out this element and run a good, fun, competition i'd have it up and going within the week. However i don't want a situation whereby i have to close it half way through or start to ban lads from it. It ruins it for everyone else. There should be no talk or thought or having to ban lads or stop people from entering. It destroys the good faith basis and reason for running the comp.
