All things Nando's

No it's not. It's just bog standard sh*tty mass produced chicken from a factory farm, they probably use some of the same suppliers.

All of KFC's chicken in the UK and Ireland comes from UK and Irish sources. In the UK and Ireland the welfare regulations are better than the US or other less developed markets but it's still pretty horrific conditions.

Nando's are buying the same product as KFC, cheap factory farmed chicken, the same as the €3 1.6kg bird you get in Tesco or Dunnes or Supervalu.

Before you were presented with the facts I knew this was wrong. Chicken in KFC is not recognisably chicken at all. The chicken in Nandos is very good. It's as good if not better than most restaurants I have been in. Which of course it should be given the price.

Rather than compare it to fast food, at that price it should be compared to moderate restaurants and bar food. It's at the top end of price there too but quality wise holds its own.

I'm not a frequent Nandos goer, I've been 4 times mostly in London on trips, once in Dublin. I'd prefer if it were a few euros cheaper. It does "just do chicken". But it's good chicken flavoured and cooked well. Many restaurants can't do that.

    Edit. Wrong thread.

    It's grand...but it's no Hillbillies.

I've only been to Hillbillies once and I found it horrifically salty.

Well said. People comparing it to KFC or chippers must have no taste buds and an incredible tolerance for grease. It's more expensive than the fast food places but much nicer and feels much healthier. It's similar prices to pub grub but nicer than most and again feels healthier than a lot of the pub stuff.

I always wonder when I eat in Nando's why more places can't just cook decent food in a simple way and give it to me.

Say that in a sexy Joanna Lumley voice and you would get a job doing the TV ads for them.

Never been and wouldn't at those prices.

Sounds like overpriced hipster fodder to me..

It's the least 'Hipster' place imaginable.

Have been once. What I remember was that it was very expensive for something that didn't even come close to filling me.
Also saying it is better than kfc is like saying it is better than dog sh*t

You're paying 80-90% more for a bit of chicken that tastes maybe 10-20% nicer than a fried chicken outlet. It doesn't tally. If I'm paying restaurant prices I want restaurant service, to be waited on hand and foot, not this self-service carry on.

It has nothing on KC's chicken

    Went once, havent been back.

Very overpriced, was myself and the wife and her mother and it cost over €50 for what was essentially 3 chicken burgers and chips.

Went a few times in London as a kid and enjoyed it. Would like to try it again now that I love spicy food.

    I've never had a Nando's :o

Went in before... looked at the menu... laughed at the prices, and walked out.

Never eat in a place that ends in a vowel.

    No Noma for you so...

    Not even a cheeky one?

Had it once myself and was actually angry at how underwhelming it was.

It's one of those things like a Superdry jacket that actually baffles me, at how popular it is.

Ate there twice, nothing wrong with it but as someone who eats almost exclusively chicken, still don't understand some peoples obsession with it. Just average food at high prices. Do like their all you can eat frozen yogurt though! :)

Yeah, don't get the Hillbillies hype. Chicken was grand but nothing special and the chips were bogstandard frozen ones.

When it comes to chippers, I tend to like independent ones. They're not all good, but many are. If I'm going to be eating a horrifically calorific meal, why would I go to a mediocre franchise? If you're going to do something wrong, do it right.

I don't compare it to chipper, I compare it to places where a main course meal and drink would cost the same. I'd say it's inferior to the majority of pub grub, at least decent pubs, and no cheaper. Many restaurants would serve much nicer food for the same price. It's probably healthier, but I don't eat out that often and am not really looking for healthy food when I do eat out.

Used to go regularly but its tough on the wallet as previously mentioned ,so now just on the odd occassion to treat myself. Its expensive enough but much more enjoyable sitting down in a comfy booth Also think your paying for the experience wiithout going over the top such as good customer service and nice music etc goes a long way in my book compared to McDonalds etc and tastier/more filling It holds a good niche in the market as its midway between a fast food restaurant and a proper restaurant Id go more regularly if it was cheaper but then again id probably get sick of it after a while as i said before its nice for the odd occassion to treat yourself

    Went once.
    Very underwhelmed.
Would prefer Eddie Rockets if I was going for that 'bit better than McDonalds' fast-food option.

Not sure how people are comparing this to McDs, KFC or the local chipper. A huge draw for Nando's is the quality of the food (especially the chicken). It's a couple of steps up in terms of price from McDs/KFC but much more healthier. If you're happy eating the stuff from those places that's fine, crack on, I don't think Nando's is meant to be for you.

I think comparing it to decent pub food is probably where it should be, and it'll easily beat out most pubs - where food is usually an afterthought and cooked up in a miserable fashion. Price wise it should land about the same.

If you don't like the taste, you don't like the taste - but comparing it to chippers and the like is laughable.

Completely agree. It just makes no sense to compare it to McDonalds or KFC.

Even the decor inside is lovely to look around at as you eat.

One thing I also like about the butterfly chicken at Nandos. Is it's actually chicken without any southern fried crumb.

It's a completely awful "restaurant" experience for the following 2 reasons:

You pay for your food at the til before you eat it.
You have to get your own drinks and cutlery meaning they need less staff.

It isn't value for money in any sense of the word.

I'd rather buy a cooked chicken and a bottle of Frank's Hot Sauce tbh
