Lot of fighting and snarling over nonsense, for some reason.

I'd say it would be fine just keep an eye on the level before and after journeys. Bring a bottle of water just in case though. When mine leaked it was from the expansion tank even though it looked fine but there was coolant dripping on the inside of the wheel area.

Cheers I'll check the level before I head off for work in the morning. I'll also take a quick look around see if I can spot any leaks.

Can anyone tell me why one of these (identical?) cars has higher tax than the other?

Sat in one today (met with the first one I linked to above) and I have to admit, they're a seriously lovely car. Definitely left a lasting impression that far surpassed the Insignia.. or practically any car I'd been in. Seriously, seriously lovely car.

Only problem is my overall budget is 10k.. not sure I'd get either.. What way does finance word with a "dealer" (quotation marks intended)? And has anyone ever dealt with that dealer (Drimnagh Motors)? Haven't talked to them yet, but assuming that's still available I'd be keen for a test drive and see how much they'd sway on price.

Some yobbos driving around Dublin... Saw a pack of scummers in a car nearly write off themselves and about 2 other cars at capel st. They were coming alongside the luas lines where they cross. Last second braking for the red light, massive amount of smoke off the tyres, just about stopped before going into the side of another car. Then off through the red light and away.

I think you were onto a winner with that 2.0 one. Those 1.6's are the same engine as the fords etc. They require really specific maintenance. I'd avoid.

Topped up the coolant with water drove to work this morning no problem at all. But looking under the car there does seem to be a leak on the opposite side of the coolant tank just behind the driver side wheel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

Behind the wheel? Strange, probably a hose then.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,487 ✭✭✭Pov06

What would happen if I was pulled over for driving without a tax disc even though the car is taxed? Could they tow the car or fine me?

I plan on carrying a Motorcheck report which says that the car is taxed but I'm unsure. I heard you can get a fine if you park in a paid parking spot in town and there is no tax disc displayed...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,480 ✭✭✭YbFocus

You get the fine for "non display of tax"
You still gotta pay which is a touch silly

That's what I was thinking myself, a quick Google search seems to suggest the same.

Rang the bmw mechanic said just keep an eye on it if it drops again he'll have a look Saturday morning.

Said the leak could be air conditioning but I don't think it is myself.

But they're both marked as 1.6?

EDIT: Sorry, you mean the one I posted before? That one is gone, unfortunately. Given the choice I'd rather a 2ltr for a bit more 'oomph' (I presume its a bit more powerful) but i'd settle for a 1.6 as anything I buy for €10k will be the most i've ever spent on a car and will be minded meticulously.

Aren't you buying from a garage sure they will tax it for you if you ask them assuming you haven't actually collected the car yet. That's what I did with mine they taxed it the morning I collected it gave me the disk so handy no going online or to the tax office or waiting for the logbook.

Honestly if I had 10k to spend the last thing I'd be buying is anything with a 1.6 psa Diesel engine and it's nothing to do with power. I got to know mechanic very well while owning one even my grandad has one and it's not even 3 years old engine is causing issues. You get the odd one that does cause much trouble but fcuk gambling 10k on getting a reliable one. Just my opinion on them though. That's the 1.6 psa engine in general rather than the c5 as such.

The car is already taxed but the tax disc is missing :pac: I was thinking of just paying for another year of tax instead of asking for a replacement.

Lada Nivas are just cool. My GF is thinking about a 4x4, I'm peddling it hard, but to no avail. She doesn't buy into the whole funky junk scene. She is also horrified at my dream of converting a VW T3 to a 1.9 TDI to make it a useful every day car. I would insure it as a classic.

Any chance it's a sinka or doka? Those things are awesome. :)

I would just get the normal Transporter. But I agree the Doka is utterly, utterly sh*tcool. I would fill my pants if I could have this one:
