    Morning all,

So heading out the N7 last night and I spotted an EasyCash/Gosafe van camped out almost in a hedge not far from Naas - it was dark and it was their red van so with the traffic I didn't see it till I was close to it.

But don't these have to be white and fully marked up? This one had a slim reflective strip around the doors but that's all. Survey van maybe?

Well I dumped the old engine oil in the Ballymount Amenity Site. It was free of charge so I can't complain.

Would have been nice to give it to someone who'll use it for heating though.

Christ no, do you think they are for safety or as a deterrent?
Even the mangiest workplace would put better reflectives on a vehicle that would be mainly parked up on "dangerous" (Their definition, not mine) roads.

I don't think the go-safe vans are even retro-reflective. If they are then even the cheapest of cheap crap you could get from eBay would be more reflective than them.

I've seen white, blue (difficult to pick out on a murky day or at night) and red. They stopped short of black vans or camaouflage green afaik.

A "tis only shmoke like" VW driver would gladly fire it up on bonfire for you if they caught a whiff of it being free.....

Looks like Eyre Square, Galway at 3 in the morning on a Saturday.

Corollas everywhere across from Supermacs :pac:

Sure the Garda ones are just white transits with an AGS logo on it and no reflective markings. Even more sneaky...

I usually give my old engine oil, brake fluid and whatever else to a friend of mine, he has an allburner in his house, it will burn just about anything short of water. Feck the greens.

    Here's one:

I know, also I can see how bad my 2 front Landsails(Chinese tyres) were, at the toll bridge I was passing a taxi just after the gate, I usually put the foot down and fly by them but today the traction control jumped on and the car violently jumped left and right, the poor taxi driver probably thought I was trying to run him off the road, I just didnt expect these tyres to be that bad, happened again when turning into work. Will replace them next week with some conti-sports.

In a real debacle with tyres at the moment. I really need to make a move on them this week or next. Essentially I am trying not to spend too much on the car as it's really been a financial black hole to this point and I don't want to make any more big purchases on it until I see whay way the NCT goes in January.

Anyway, the car currently has 4 Eastern European ditch finders on it, two essentially brand new and two 90% worn.

    My choices (in 205/55/16) are:

two new Conti's supplied and fitted and keep the two nearly new ditchfinders, costing €120

or four part worn Conti's, 4-5mm left, also €120.

Don't know what exact model they are, he was offended enough that I asked did they have any brand name tyres, never mind get into model specifics. What would people do?

Not a conti fan (wear and noise are my main gripes) but if the part worns are matching and in decent nick get them and flog the ditchfinders on dung deal.

I know how you feel about tyres my car had four sunny tyres on them and my god there woeful even tipping around a roundabout can feel the arse kicking out and traction control kicking.

I've got used to being cars with good tyres it's quite scary how little grip cheap tyres give.

My problem I've already spent a fortune on the car and money which was set aside for wheels has now been spent on dpf and glow plug module next week that an decent wheels have popped up and I'm not buying tyres for wheels I hate.

Personally speaking I'd have gotten the tyres sorted before the remap etc.

Same here. Not only would I have been skittish about the remap not being as good as it could be with normal tyres, the extra power would be a concern considering Sunny's aren't that great on stock cars.

Still not as bad as the Audi R8 with Nankangs on the rear, but there's no way I'd remap anything with crap tyres on it.

Spotted this beast today. Very clean for an 09 car, right? Right? :pac:

Nah, if you're gonna pretend get RS wheels. They suit them very well.

I get that but Itwo things

1 I've been keeping an eye our for a set of alloys I like and none have yet to appearm id rather spend money on tyres when I have the wheels I want on it.

2 before the remap I wasn't aware of the dpf issue or glow plug module needing to be replaced neither were showing up on the dash and I'd only gotten a good bit if work done on the car a few weeks after I bought it so that has set me back a few extra hundred unexpectedly out of my car fund :) especially since I just taxed it for the year this week as well.

Today I handed back my rental car after 5 weeks in the USA. I called him Paul as it seemed to suit him.

Those new Mondeos/Fusions are absolutely excellent I must say. Engine is good if heavy on fuel, interior is very impressive and I think the shape overall looks excellent.

Handed him back today with just shy of 21k km on him. Here's some interesting statistics from his OBC.

    Average economy over 19k - 25.5mpg.
Average driving - close to 4000km per week
Total time spent driving 221 hours.
Liters of fuel burnt - 1553.42

Think I have visited 22 states on this trip so far, from Miami to Dallas to Indianapolis to New York. Pic of him on his trip to the Gas Monkey Garage Dallas!

Different strokes...if your priority is poke then that's your prerogative. Didn't mean to appear to be having a go, just in my head stopping power should equal going power.
