Why would ya bother with the 6 cylinder TT, it only has like 22 more hp than the 1.8T. Sure it does sound much nicer but for all that extra weight and fuel consumption, nah thanks I`ll stick with the 4 pot.

I'm not on about an audi!!!

Might be wrong but Noonan has implied that the only tax increase on the cards is for fags (.20c) so would it be safe to assume that us motorists will be left alone?

Is the Halfords oil, filters and spark plugs ok to use or are they bad quality?

I'd go with Micks Garage. They have branded stuff and it's probably cheaper too. I got oil, oil filter and 2 bulbs for €24 including delivery for the Punto. Was well happy with that. :)

*I think that was with a 10% off code but still.

No, not bad quality at all. Ye Fords of Hal will usually attempt to gouge thee on prices though, so be pure wide like.

Sp got the car back after the remap and I'm very impressed much nicer to drive much better acceleration and more power up to 250bhp now.

Only issue is he noticed there is a problem with the glow plug module and the dpf is a bit clogged and once fixed should get it up to around 270bhp.

So the car is going in next week to get sorted looking at a few hundred euro don't know whether to be pissed off having to spend more money or excited to see how she is once it's all done with the extra power.

Stupid question, but are all the nuts fully tightened?

The nuts are fine. What else could it be?

What engine is in your E60 again Marty? 525d or 525i? Some nice gains there.

Mine is a 530D the 218bhp version so In the end should see a 50bhp increase.

Today was the first time since I sold the 330i were I planted my foot and just couldn't help but smile with acceleration.

Lift it up and turn the wheel(s). You'll see which one is the bad one.

Could be a tyre, could be a rim.

Ya, I find shopping on line very daunting though.. Like looking at the oil fillets it's seems to be given different measurements of each one, even though I selected the correct car. Just afraid of buying the wrong one.

That sounded worse than intended. I just meant they look kinda cheap... :o

    2 new calipers??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,925 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

    2 new calipers??

Yeah, had one caliper start to stick about 3-4 years ago. Mechanic gave it a going over and it's held up until now. The discs are well and truly warped from one of them sticking, and it's actually cheaper to buy the second caliper than it is to buy another set of discs.

It's not that I'm so unlucky both failed at the same time :)

Been hungry for more power myself lately. Recently drove a remapped GTI V and it's been making me think hard.

One of these days I will yano :p

I want an Audi S3 but they cost ~5k more than GTIs with much better spec and are impossible for me to insure (even with the exact same engine). Oh well, I'm going to have to be patient.

Can anyone recommend a VW/Audi specialist in South Dublin?

S3s have a bigger turbo and a good deal more power though.

This is true. It's just the difference I can't get over. I can't get Aviva to quote me on an S3, yet they'll give me a refund with a GTI. To be honest, the main reason I'd go for an S3 over a GTI is rarity on Irish roads. Financially and for what I'm looking for in a car, the GTI makes a lot of sense for me.

I've always ordered the s3 myself I know the golf I'd much loved but it does nothing for me I dint even know why it just doesn't.

    Yea isn't the s3 over 300bhp?

Honestly, I feel the exact same way. They're a great car but people just see them as a Golf. I know most of my friends wouldn't tell the difference between a GTI and a 1.9 TDI.

    8P S3 is 265bhp.

That's half the charm in my eyes. But in saying that, an S3 is even more subtle again, it get's a rear valance and not much else. If I had extra money at the time I would have got an S3, but when I bought in Feb 2012, a 08 GTI was 13-14k and a 08 S3 was 18-20k.

Carbon copy situation so! It's hard to get an S3 fully loaded compared to the GTI too. I'd be looking for full leather, climatronix, sat nav, 18" diamond cuts if I were to go for a GTI. Impossible to get all that in an S3, going by what's been on donedeal the past year or so. Is your own GTI remapped? My friend got his done by Joe Power and it's pushing 260 now which is very impressive.

Got it sorted. The weights were a bit heavy on them, so got them readjusted.

Yeah the lead weights can be a bit heavy, you may have to get them swapped for aluminium ones.
