I really think 17 summers in a row is too long to be repeating the same program.

It's great to dip in now and then and watch it. They should however make new episodes.

No not al all. Its one of the best shows on RTE, and only last night did I see an episode that I had not seen before.
They should make more episodes and as I said, a great show !!

Are you out of your mind?

One of the best things on TV.

They will make more episodes....in about five years time ;)

A good show, but repeated to death. I remember The Rock and Roll Years on the BBC years ago. Surprisingly they haven't made a new series in years. RTE copied the format many years later.

It's a cheap and simple (and copied) format that allows them to make use of their archives. Probably gets too big a billing, though.

Reeling in the years is better

They certainly got value for money when they commissioned that show.

Make new episodes and maybe go further back in time.

Do the episodes ever make it onto the rte player?

What's the most recent episode. Isn't there episodes of 2008-9?

    Why did they stop ?

TV was only invented in Ireland in 1962.

It's over staying it's welcome & this stage. Typical RTE, they're so stuck for something to show that everything is a repeat now 😣

Axe it? God, no. It's grand filler.

Just because it is running a long time you want it axed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭CathalRyano

I mean they only did the 2000s when it reached 2010. They'll do the 2010s when it reaches 2020.

Well it's either this or RTE reverting back to continuous reruns of Keeping up appearances....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,396 ✭✭✭DivingDuck

Bores me to tears, and I have zero interest in this type of program.

That said, I've no idea why anyone would want it axed when there are about twenty other channels to choose from if you don't want to watch it.

Other people are enjoying it and reruns cost nothing to produce, so why take it off the air?

Hell no.I love it.My favourite programme that RTE show besides The Simpsons

Can you not see that people still enjoy it? RTE cannot win with some people. If they canned it you'd probably complain too.

82 or 83 definitely shows people emigrating and talking about emigrating

The 2000s ones were made too soon after the events. Hindsight would make them really rather different now - might be worth editing or remaking

Agreed, there should be at least 15 years between the year and the respective "reeling"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

2000 to 2010 should have waited to have been made in 2020.

A decade should separate the making of each.

I understand the reason RTE rushed to make the '00's one (The popularity of the show) but Ireland changed so much between '08 to '10 that we are only seeing now in 2015 the long term affect of what happened during those boom years.

I would like to see the '00 series remade in 2020 when we should by then hopefully see what the impact of those years really have been.

In fairness, Reeling in the Years is a great show. I still watch it when it's on these days even after having seen the episodes numerous times

The bigger issue is that it's summer filler material for RTE. They only do a 30 minute Six-One program in the summer, the same at Easter and after Christmas.

RTE news and current affairs seems to take a large portion of July and August of every year off. I had a look at the schedules for this week for example - no current affairs programs on TV all week. It drives me mad - what other company would effectively down tools for a large portion of the year? Can they not arrange peoples' schedules so that not nearly everyone it seems is away on holidays at the same time? Do they think the world suddenly stops for 6 weeks? I think it's linked to the fact that the Dail is on holidays at the same time, but that's no justification.

What Current Affairs is there??? Newspapers have to do soft feature pieces to fill the pages.
