WTF ??? I don't know whether serious or not serious seems like a wild accusation to me.

Commonly known to be on the increase some believe the HPV infection /virus to be the cause,
There's a push to include boys in the schools HPV vaccination programme

Sure Mickey Douglas told us that two years back.

Isn't this what happened to Michael Douglas?

I've heard it in regards more to mouth cancers, so I suspect its probably connected. As Gatling said, yeah.

You can get patches for that....

Yeah I heard about this on the radio early in the year; I think it was on the Sean O'Rourke programme.

They really should start giving the HPV vaccine to young boys. Most people think HPV vaccines are only for girls.

Gave up smoking and now I can't give some young one a lickout without a fear of catching the cancer. Stick to ****, you'll only break your wrist at worst.

I don't think so. They're mentioned a lot when you read about lesbian safe sex but I couldn't even tell you where to buy them. I'd say the majority don't even know they exist.

I have a friend a dentist who insists on it, and he's a (straight) male.

Ever hang out with a wince of dentists? Don't. This is their idea of pub chat.

Can guys just call a GP and arrange to get HPV vaccinated, or is it currently not approved for men at all? As a singer and a cunning linguist, this concerns me deeply.

Also f*ck the dental dam idea, that'd be like eating a magnum through the wrapper.

It's not that it has to be approved for men. You could get it, if you pay for it yourself, but it'd only be effective if you hadn't already been exposed to the virus. But the vast majority of people who are sexually active have been. Hence why they vaccinate at an early age. I assume that they've chosen to vaccinate girls because they're higher risk of developing cervical cancer from it than men developing mouth cancer.

Why would it be CC scaremongering? If you can sustain the interest to read all the way to the end of the report, you'll see it rounds off with a request to donate to the ENT Oncology Dept at SIVUH. If you're looking for fodder for a conspiracy theory, there you go. No need to invoke those pesky Catholics.

The link between HPV and oropharyngeal cancers is well-established. HPV is the leading cause of these cancers. As for the claim that there's an "increasing incidence" of such cancers, that's also well-documented, and it's not confined to Ireland.

What is more uncertain is whether this is due to more oro-genital contact. It's not clear how readily HPV infection is transmitted either in oral sex or in kissing. But rates of HPV infection generally are higher than in the past. If you have HPV infection you're at risk of oropharyngeal cancer, and it doesn't (SFAIK) matter how you contracted the HPV infection.

Gah, now I have seen everything. I didn't even know that these exist. I can't imagine that it would be enjoyable at all to receive oral sex from someone basically wearing a latex condom on their mouth, might as well lick me out with a plastic bag :p

This reminds me of the headline some years ago announcing that 'Cellophane' gives you cancer.
But read the actual research paper and it turns out that you would need to eat 3 sets of sambos a day, that had been wrapped in cellophane, for 80 years, to get a 0.004% chance of getting cancer.

Producing a bit of cling film is going kill the romance a bit don't you think, Life is full of risks every day so enjoy yourself and don't be worrying about nonsense like this.

^^ This ... I mean I'd love to know the real numbers and increased likelihood of getting cancer from the average males sex life.

Sure Micheal Douglas was probably going down on about 10 women a day back in his sex addiction days,
most of us aren't that lucky ... so don't worry .. enjoy life..

Nah I will go with my first though of Daily mail style you get cancer from everything. And this hospital is linked as far as I can see to the CC. And going by the article is of 5-6% of cancers, And people with HPV do and don't get the cancer. So it's a tiny percentage of a tiny percent. But lets blow it all out of proportion. Lap it up people. I would like to see a research paper on this. Or is it a patient turns up has the cancer and HPV asked have they ever given oral sex. And then pronounce lads it a pattern this lad gave oral a few times.

That might be because to save money it was decided not to vaccinate both genders, and girls got priority.

I love how this decision not to give boys the same medical care as girls then became about how men are giving women cancer.
