Cows down a litre or 2 with this rain and wind. Grass is starting to get tight so hopefully we get that sun from Wednesday on. Planning on opening the whole crop in 2 weeks and buffer feeding from then on. Might have to open it sooner if needed. 1 thing I learned this spring is 10 kg of whole crop per cow is alot better than a few kilos of extra meal.

Do you grow whole crop on out blocks yourself or buy on contract? When it's good quality it's a great feed to have

Cows walking pace has dropped fairly dramatically Took ages to get them out yesterday and in this pm. Wet roads, cows heavy and time of year.

Might have to start following them, not something we like to do as up to this they followed you in at their own pace.

Grew 12 acres at home normally do 18 but spring was so bad didn't want to risk taking out too much. Turned out we did the right thing. Bought another 10 acres. So we're well stocked this year hopefully.

If I didn't follow our girls a third of em wouldn't bother coming in. Leave the gap open and same ones would have to rounded up. Of course if a wire was down they'd be gone in a flash the feckers

Ours learn to follow as calves with mobile feeder. They get nuts everyday as calves so follow right through life. This morning I had to bring 5 feckers that stayed behind. Normally wouldn't need to but we were crossing road so was afraid to chance them.

Having bother the last few weeks with that cows won't walk in or out. Moved to 12 hour breaks has helped a bit thinking of moving to 16 hour milkings to reduce the amount of walking in the back end.

Thats what the kids are for, they bring the cows in here-when bull isnt with them anymore- They know not to run after them and they enjoy it.

Did anyone go once a day last year? Did scc Suffer?

Alarm was going off on milk tank this morning, some problem with the cleaning pump. Repair guy came out and reckons it needs a new circuit board, the tank isnt even 2years old.

What make? Will warranty cover it? Got a text from my tank this morning saying wash stopped due to low water and check filters. Went messing around for 30 mins only to click that it was the farm pump not the tank at fault. Wait an hour then for the thing to wash before milking. Have two Wells one for house and one for farm so was able to switch over till I get the farm well fixed. Another few euro gone now, balls

Packo, also had problems with sensors on it a while ago. I have the bulk tank maintenance scheme with glanbia so I hope that covers it.

The salesman who I bought the darakool off said there was a option for a fancy touchscreen version for 500 ish extra, he told me it's a complete waste of money, wont tell me anything extra over the normal display, and will probably be less reliable etc. His honesty definitely played a part in going for that tank.

Guessing you have the I control one too, the fecking "icisaris" (spelt wrong) sensor is the biggest pain in the .... Goes every 9months wish packo would solve the problem with it

Did you have them inside or out? Kept the smallest 6 of mine in all summer. They have passed out the ones outside. Made a big difference.

Stan - any idea what weights they were? I have 4 bulls & a freemartin born Feb - April, all to go to a neighbour from the bunch below.

No idea what to ask. Mixed bunch, one or two quite nice and some quite screwy. I'm fond of my neighbours so not inclined to be greedy..

What sort of pump? How hard is your water? It could well be worth your while lifting that pump out of the well and making sure filter hasn't been oxidized over. It can bring a pump to a stop very suddenly.

Would it have taken 2kg a piece for the last 90 days to get that far? @30c/kget twud be 54 euro. Then again a different day in the mart and they wouldn't make the fleshy price. For the 10 or twenty extra not a whole pile in it I guess
