    God no. It's right down there with Tom Cruise in Far and Away. Horrendous.

    Daniel Day Lewis in My Left Foot, Name of the Father and The Boxer nailed it I thought. Cate Blanchett was good in Veronica Guerin. I actually didn't think Brad Pitt was too bad in The Devils Own. But for someone who grew up in Ireland, Pierce Brosnan should hang his head in shame for Eibhlin.

    Kelly Macdonald (notoriously for her awful accent in Boardwalk Empire) did a great accent in Intermission.


    Good call on Duff, I thought she was Irish for a long time, even when I saw her in Shameless I was thinking "fair play to her for picking up that accent"!!


    MacDonald's accent is so grating in BE, it's even more annoying considering she damn near nailed it in Intermission.

    Another vote for Jon Voight in The General. Superb.

    I always think it's more surprising when an American nails the Irish accent, as opposed to a Brit. The British have had Irish tv and radio personalities, neighbours, co-workers, even parents and other family members to listen to for decades... The Americans have the Lucky Charms leprechaun.

    I'm only half-joking here, but I nominate Ryan O'Neal as Barry Redmond in Barry Lyndon. Yes, his accent is dodgy, but because of it he seems to be an imposter even in his own country. I never bought into him as an Irishman but it all works in the context of his character.

    i honestly cant remember what his accent is like in Barry Lyndon. I shall have to watch it again to confirm. how terrible.

    When I first saw In the Name of the Father, I was convinced Pete Postlethwaite was Irish, and that he was putting on accents in other films. This was in the days before Google.

    I'd be a bit more forgiving towards American actors putting on the accent, as it's a little easier for Scottish or English actors. Brad Pitt was decent enough with the Cookstown twang in the Devil's Own.

    I'm only on season 2 of SoA but I'm not sold on it, completely over-rated so far:
    - Humman's acting is awful, he seems to be trying to let his gatch do most of the walking in some seasons
    - The mother's hushed whispery tones
    - The Sergeant at Arms "wisecracks"
    - Stormtrooper esque shooting

    Brad Pitt in The Devils Own. He does a pretty good Northern accent and it's a decent film as well.

    As Turkish says in Snatch "it's not quite Irish, it's not quite English, it's just.. Pikey"

    Glen Close dosen't speak in an Irish accent in Albert Nobbs,the character is English.
