Well lads. Im just filling out my deer license application and the issue i have is that im still looking for a rifle that suits me. Now i do have a . 22 licensed and it says on the form they wont accept anything less than a 22 to hunt deer. Would it be safe to apply with this gun and serial number for the time being?

No you will need to put down a deer caliber rifel with appropriate bullet weight.
Either buy a rifel and get serial number from RFD for application or you could and I don't know if it is possible to do. get a friend to give you his rifle details and use that for application and when you find a rifle that you like inform the NPWS of your rifle change and to update your deer licence with new firearm details

The .22 aspect of the rifle relates only to .22 centrefire ammo of not less than 55 gr with a minimum muzzle energy of 1,700ft/lb.

So effectively Swift upwards. There is debate about a .223's ability to achieve this but for the purpose of this thread i'll not go into that.

German pointer is spot on about getting the serial number form the RFD when you do find a rifle, but i'd hold off on using another persons gun just to get the license. The deer license can be applied for at any time so wait until you have a gun sorted then apply.
