An anti-Islamic group founded in Germany, which it emerges now has an Irish branch, is objecting to the building of a mosque in Tralee, County Kerry. The group denies it is racist but says it wants to save Ireland from Islam. It is to launch a political party shortly.

Just looked into who these guys are and it's all very amusing albeit a worrying trend these days.

They say they're against Islam and Sharia Law etc, but seem to want to introduce laws that mirror it
Pornography is highly damaging and has no place in a healthy society. Therefore, pornography in all of it's forms will be banned outright
The recent advent of homosexuals' rights is also corrosive to the moral standing of our people. [...] we WILL criminalize all forms of the promotion of homosexuality especially if it is aimed at our children.

Anyone heard of these whack-jobs before?

Yep, they are also extremely pro life, want to bring in national service for all young people and believe a woman's place is in the home. Their Facebook page is a hoot of racist, homophobic crap.

Are they an Iona splinter group?

Sounds like a turf war between competing firms.

These groups always leave me scratching my head. They are against another group which have many similar ideas. You would think they would want to join together.

There were also protests against the ones they built in Galway. And guess what - there has been no terrorism, there has been no Islam law, and the building is actually among the most beautiful ones in the city.

Plus anyone who has to state they aren't racist clearly are incredibly so.

smells of that freemen of the land sh1te---they want to abolish maritime law and replace it with common law.

I doubt there's any connection apart from a few shared ideals.

This CPP lot seem to be all over the place with their policies. They want to do away with speeding laws because 'of personal responsibility' (if there's no harm caused then no crime was commited), yet want to ban porn because it causes so much harm.

For some reason they want to get rid of maritime law too, which I can't for the life of me figure out why.

While my personal wish would be that no new churches or temples were built anywhere in the republic, there's no way I'd support this bunch of right-wing nutjobs. They seem to want to throw Ireland back into the 1950's with colleens dancing at the crossroads and all that crap.

Goody. Reverse Freemen. Just what's needed.

They should've seen about converting while they were there.

Seems Islam would suit them down to the ground.

I just read through their website and manifesto. They sound nuts.

Some of those CPP policies are hilarious.

    - Make it illegal to borrow money from abroad.

    - Reintroduce the pound, abolish local tax but import tax will be charged in Euros.

    - Married couples will get 0% interest loans and will have the loan paid for if they have four kids.

Everyone is fighting their religious battles in Kerry, of late...
Cross on Carruantoohil cut down as a protest against something; AI try to prevent crucifix being hung on wall in Kerry CC; CPP protest mosque in Kerry...

Has anyone told them that the Celts never really came to Ireland. It's pretty much one of the first things you learn in Celtic Studies. Should we also tell them that the Celts were, surprisingly enough, not Christian.

I just reported that post to FB for review for racist content, I'd urge everyone to do likewise.

Interesting that their website is registered in the US - no national sentiment there.

They're better off out in the open where they can be laughed at accordingly.

Push them off Facebook and they end up posting on other sites like Stormfront using pseudonyms. At least on Facebook those agreeing with what's said are using their real names.

Fair point, although 1,000 likes is rather troubling.

Then they should give everyone else the chance to say what they feel and ignore the mosque :)

i like the page but don't subscribe to their views.

I like many pages from the Joe Higgins to Britian First but I just like to see whats going on.

    likes don't mean anything.

Anyone feel those posts fall within this legislation?

There is very a fine line regarding legislation in this area, "opinion" being a paramount factor - similar to defamation

If you're going to punish one offender, it is only right to punish everyone else who has posted something "threatening, abusive or insulting".
