Was shocked myself at condition of machines, thought the fords looked a bit better but I never even hopped into any of them. Anyways bought a fiat privately since, was able to drive it and check it out properly

    what model did you buy?

It's fun there just just to see, not with the view of buying. Thats the worst of it, they don't leave them running for long and you can't check out everything in them to see if it's working right.

Last auction I was at was merlin motors 10 yrs ago, enjoyed but the time of hammer didn't suit the cows! But still enjoyed seeing 20 fords and 6 fiats. Wonder how the jd s got on?

Interesting to see what they went for. The JD 4055 was much nicer to spend the day in compared to a Ford 8210 or TW15 of the same era. Full power shift year box and a very comfortable air seat in the Jd!

The 135's look pretty tasty :).

It looks like the service policy was, pull tractor in to garage grab bonnet and horse it over the nearest clamp of turf never to be seen again, big fans of the olde Air Cooled method id say

i know its probably the last thing you'd think of looking at some of the tractors but would they have tax books? and what would be required to get a tractor taxed? i presume they don't have a reg plate?

Being bord na mona state owned equipment I would assume that all that would be in order (??)

why do none of them have reg plates? only fleet plates, they wouldn't have been on the road as such

The saying do as I say not as I do would be bord na mona's template, have first hand expirence dealing with them and it's a proper glorified semi - state can't get fired quango.....
Wouldn't be unknown for tractors to get reddend on a Fri morning so lads could clock of early on full pay of course , and maybe pull another few days while the "mechanics/fitters" their try to fix it which usually results in a botched attempt and it having to go back to main dealers to sort out the mess

They should all have the tax book but on some of the lots it says book to follow so I assume they're getting new books

I was in charge of getting all their vans/jeeps serviced/fixed. Let's just say if the tractors are treated twice as good as the vans/jeeps they would still be lucky to be going at all.

yep, Ive seen some crazy things in my time on the bord. I've seen countless men pull out stuck tractors with diggers, by using the tracks. Of course the tracking motors didnt last too ling when this kept happening. Ive also seen an idiot rev the tractor up to the 540 mark for the pto, and then engage the pto, he wondered why he kept breaking shear pins......

I'd say some of them lads would test a fiat 110-90's 'bomb proof' reputation alright, might have to buy two to make one.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

I used to go up to my cousins in offally every summer for 2 weeks. Inevitably we'd end up in the bog as the dad worked in Bord na Mona. It was an absolute joke shop even back then. Donkeys driving machines and no-one giving a fcuk about anything only what time could slip off for pints.
I can imagine what state the gear is in

'Cut your way in, weld your way out' , wasn't that the great saying from Bord Na Mona.

I'm wondering what are they replacing all this machinery with, if anything.

Leasing in all tractors now for the season that they need on top of yokes they have themselves that are still driving haha, don't think they have purchased any new tractors for over three years, aren't the bogs and production of peat for fuel/power stations being shut down gradually over the next decade with the end result being total closure of bogs for fuel by bnm

Well lads after trip to bord na gon sale, friend saw a 1580 on dd. Went down and drove it, seemed very nice, brakes, clutch, gears all good. Body work v good for its age. Anyway long story cut short, brought it back Tues evening and when unloaded didn't get 200 yrds down the road. Pulled it home, up till 1 bleeding it to no avail, anyway air locked in the piston and got it up and running. Filled it with diesel, nxt thing diesel everywhere, fu Cher had jammed overflow down engine. So fixed this and nxt thing filled rad and water gurgling. Thought might be lazy thermo so yoked up temperature gauge which was unplugged!! Took it for a spin and temp gauge in the red and rad roasting. Rang dealer a lad and he said head gasket gone, cancelled cheque immediately but Luckily it eventually cancelled 2 days later. The dirty c*nt disconnected the gauge, drained out diesel, disconnected overflow to bide time for cheque to clear. He had the cheque in first thing that morning. Rang the b $$stard and he denied saying drive it on to f $$k it be the finest. He doesn't know the cheque has cancelled :-) so it be arriving in his yard Monday evening! Wouldn't mind if he had told me the prob and dropped the price I might have dealt, but he was too greedy. Think I should have bought at the bog!!

I think 2009 was the last year the leased New Hollands, in 2010 they bought a new fleet of John Deere 6830s, and smaller 70hp John Deeres, cant remember the model numbers. The machines they got were very basic. The 6830 was not as good in the bog as the Nh 8360 or TM140. The John Deeres grilles would get clogged with dust very easily, and would over heat if they were not cleared.

Bodywork good, driving as good as my 99 110-90, good power everything fine bar overheating. For its age in good nick also rim weights and full set on front ideal for my ground. Bast^Rd wasting my feck in time..

Change the thread title? Not when you're not the OP.

Really annoys me to see self employeds hard earned tax money going n such wilful waste......... wonder is the HSEs hospitals waiting lists due to similar wilful waste/inefficencies or every other public service either
A friend was brought in to drive a silage harvester for the summer on the bord na mona farm, he wasn't allowed top up his tractor with oil and often had to wait hours for a fitter to come and do it, so the whole crew were idle as well
