    Clearly a scientist; in more sociable professions those comments would be kept to himself and the boys.

    That's a pretty accurate comment on the whole thing. One thing you do notice in the sciences is that scientists are -not- trained in how to deal with the public, especially the older scientists. You see it an awful lot in sciences that politics have invaded (climate, oh god, climate). Politicians attack and scientists flounder because they have no idea how to respond to devious jabs that deliberately misinterpret what they are saying. The science is the science, anything around it is bull.

    Not so much in this case. This guy should really have kept his clumsy mouth shut, but I suppose one could say that his very lack of training in interpersonal and public relations...well, gaffes happen.

    That is just a very foolish generalization. Who know maybe his really having had time with "girl". Note the phrase "you fall in love". I suspect he a victim of a one ways "love".
