I was under the impression that goats needed no permit for hunting. However I was showing someone in work here in Deutschland a pic and I then noticed this which had me scratching my head.
    Are feral goats protected?
Never seen nor heard of this before.

For a non-native animal, goats have quite a high profile in Irish culture. Their many uses over the centuries (eg milk for cheese, skin for bodhrans). their association with wild mountainous areas and their stubborn independent spirit means that many people regard them with fondness. Although goats are sometimes culled to protect sensitive habitats, it is not permitted to hunt them without a permit.

Shoot away, just ask the owner of the sport rights permission beforehand.

Also, you need a bit of oomph for these lads.

.22 subsonics are a no no.

Goats are not protected other than in the way a rabbit or fox, etc. is. IOW basic animal rights.

They are not included on the NPWS like, say, Muntjac even though the number of goats would far exceed Muntjac. Without being a smart arse just because some website has it that you need a permit does not make it so. I mean the NPWS has had some doozies like 223 for deer, and they are in charge of the licensing. I've seen other sites, since changed, that said lamping foxes is illegal.

I got this list form the NPWS a few years ago and while some species may change (mostly birds) you'll see feral goats are listed under the vermin list. While there is no vermin list (it's either protected with a season, fully protected, or not protected) they are given no more protection than foxes, rabbits, etc. Also any "permit" would be covered under the authorisation to hunt that is granted when you get a firearms license.

Do not dream of using a rimfire on goats! They need deserve humane dispatch with a suitable centrefire. Preferrably a deer calibre. Although they are viewed as little more than vermin in some areas we still need to be humane!!!!

I could hazard a guess that website said you needed a permit....One that caters for tourist shooting with German clientele?:)

thats a website for the wicklow national park. All animals in all our national parks are provided protection, you cant shoot as much as a rat in a national park without permission from npws.
You need no permit for feral goats in Ireland just landowners permission.word to the wise in regards goat hunting, one landowner may love them and the neighbouring landowner may hate them so be wary when shooting them and that you dont stray off your permission!

My reading of the website was you needed the permit to shoot them in the park only.
    You only need landowners permission
