So this is being released in august and already review copies have been sent out. The first was a little sedentary, Fitz in his new/peaceful life with his family..but that ending?? Nailbiting cliffhanger in the best sense..

can't wait for this, the few that have read it have said it's the best in all the Fitz books..we'll see :)

Did you get an ARC copy? How did you manage that?

I loved the first book in this series. Didn't bother me at all that it was slow and thought it her best work since the Tawny Man trilogy so very much looking forward to this.

10/10 for Fitz and his life!

I keep searching but cant find anything more entertaining than Fitz's story from boyhood till now.

She's a master of storytelling. She just writes so well. Can't put her books down when I'm in one.

The whole story from assassins apprentice on deserves to be made into a Tv series. Done well, it would be amazing.

She actually. Not her real name (that's Meagan Lindholm). She purposely chose a pseudonym that could be male or female.

There's 3 trilogies now dealing directly with Fitz. There's also the Liveships trilogy with some overlap and its successor the Rain Wild quartet. The latest two books are, IMO, among her strongest yet (certainly in terms of writing).

Yeah do the farseer trilogy the. The tawny man trilogy after it. Picks up with Fitz and the fool a good few years later. Then These two new ones, final one in the three due this November. These latest two are incredible though the first takes a while to get going.

I wouldn't bother with the Liveship trilogy or rain wild stuff til after you're done with Fitz. It's set in the same world but the writing style couldn't be more different and tbh they just aren't as good. Seen a lot of people drop them (and Hobb) altogether cos of them. They're a bit of a struggle.

I have read the Liveship series and well it was then I lost interest in the world, they bored me tbh

I don't think that the liveship or dragon chronicles series are the best of her work, but I wouldn't skip them, and still enjoyed them quite a lot.

Haven't read Rainwilds but I always thought that Liveships was her second best trilogy. However, that might become their best trilogy depending on the last book in her current trilogy.

For me it's a simple curve, started brilliantly and went downhill consistently ever since. I wasn't keen on the Tawny Man trilogy, to call Soldier's Son series "horrible" would be an understatement, and Fool's Assassin you could rip in half, chuck away the first part and miss almost nothing from the story. I loved Farseer, particularly the first two, would be delighted if she reverted to that form.

Well in this new trilogy I think she has found that voice again..it's fitz and the Fool again..what more do we need?

Amazon.co.uk are doing a deal at the moment, if you buy a kindle book, buy a physical book or download and register the Kindle mobile app, you get a free kindle book from a choice of 5 or 6. One of the options is the first book in the Liveship traders. I haven't received my code yet but the offer is still running.
(the book you purchase must be £0.01 or greater).

I am a serious Robin Hobb fan. I love the depth of her ideas and insights, while telling a good yarn. I think my favourite would be the first Fitz book, but I loved the Liveships and Rainwild series. There was just one of the Rainwild series that was a bit weak I thought (part of the journey). Not mad about Soldier Son though I would read it again. Now waiting on the last of the Fools Quest trilogy.

I wrote my master's thesis on Robin Hobb two years ago so gave her work a bit of a break up until about a month ago. It is worth reading all the books chronologically because she's gearing up for some top quality epic story-telling in the next installment. All the threads will be taken up and I just can't frickin' wait!

Roll on 2017. I'm disappointed book 3 won't be out this year but I believe it will be worth it.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 7,611 ✭✭✭david75

Wow. That's a lot of work well played!

Is the final instalment not in November?

Everywhere I check it says March 2017. Was kind of counting on it for Christmas Day but alas.

Do let me know if you find out it's actually out earlier than then!

It could have been pushed back. I follow her on Twitter and FB and remember her recently saying there's an awful lot to be edited and it may not be the last book, or words to that effect. So a push back is possible. I'm fairly sure it was to be a November release. She writes remarkably quickly by comparison to certain others.

You should send her your thesis. She's contactable on Twitter etc

Love her books, just started to re-read them. Obviously bawled my eyes out last night when Nighteyes died.
Think Assassins' fate is due next year march...really looking forward to that one. Hope Fitz finally gets some rest..and some how i hope we will encounter Nighteyes one final time.:(

Can you please spoiler tag that, I'm only on the third book and that is a pretty big spoiler that's now been ruined for me :(

Why are you reading a thread about the 8th book if you're only on the third one?

Because there is more discussion about the series in here than there is of the 8th book?

Just pre-ordered the kindle version for Asassin's fate today, can't wait. I'll finish my re-read on the first 2 books tonight, an annoying wait until next Thursday to start the last book. I love these books, pity it has to be the last one (presumably).
