You need to write to your super and request it stating why you need the increase

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26 lockey90

As said above just enquire in cop shop they will probably direct you onto the super etc. I just increased it when I applied for the gun licence. Just say shooting 3 times a week can't buy the rounds you want locally and it's not convenient going back and forth to gun shop if they ask.... Shouldn't be a problem as long as your not looking for a ridiculous number

thanks lads,i would be happy with 300,as i buy online, and paying €5 a time for shiping per 100 is a bit steep, would not mind paying the €5 for 300

Well why not apply for 500 and buy the full brick, €5 for 500 would be even better

    Hi,

I think its easier to get a larger allocation on your licence by default, if you are a member of a club - obviously target shooting eats bullets a lot quicker than game shooting. Nothing to stop a person being active in both target and game shooting, needless to say.

    Thanks,

    G.

I shoot targets at a club but only have 100 rounds on my license. I got a European firearms license and they increased the amount to500 although my license 100

The EFP has a minimum set amount of 500 but it's not a license and does not "override" the amount on your license. So if your license says 100 that is all you can have. The amount on the EFP is the amount you can have in your possession while traveling with the firearm within the EU and it can be "overridden" by the amount on your visitor's permit.

It is NOT a license, you cannot buy ammo with it, and it does not allow you to hold more than what is on your license so please don't think that and end up in trouble by having 100 on your license and 500 rounds in your possession.

Says who? I have seen this repeatedly posted here without any basis. The EFP comes as a blank booklet which is completed by a Garda.
It does not have "a minimum set amount of 500". I don't know where this myth started. The Garda will usually use the same details from each firearm's licence, incl. ammunition limits.
As you say, if one's licence has a limit of 100, having 500 written on a EFP is meaningless.

The rest of your post is relevant though - domestic licence ammunition allowance is what matters.

Jesus, calm down. It's a turn of phrase, not written in stone.

Every EFP i have applied for an gotten had 500 set on it without any request by me for that amount. Anyone i know that has also gotten one has had this limit put on it as "standard". I am not saying it's a legal standard or a guaranteed amount. It is always hand written in so i know it's not a set figure. Merely that it is the amount that is most commonly placed on it based on the number of EFPs i have gotten and seen and form talking to lads that also DID NOT request a specific amount.

The amount is not as important as my point above about it not being a license and cannot be used to get ammo or an ammo increase.

Just a quick question from a newby, is the ammo allowance the amount you are legally allowed to hold and is there a max of rounds you can buy in a year.
    Thanks.

hi and welcome,as far as i know if 100 rounds is on your license, that is the amount you are allowed to buy and have at any one time, there is no max amount for the year, afaik

The amount on your license is the total amount you can have in your possession at any one time. It also includes empty/fired cases as they are classed as component parts under the law and need a license to have. IOW if you have 100 on your license, and have 50 fired and 51 live rounds you're over your limit.

It's why i suggest to lads to have at least double the limit of what you need.

As for how often you can buy. There is not limit. As long as the amount you have at any one time (including the empties) does not exceed the amount on your license. Your RFD is not responsibile for how much he sells to you once the amount in one purchase does not exceed the total on your license.

Nice one lad. It'll give you some freedom to have the extra few hundred.

    From what i gather.
The 500 round is a EU standardisation of Min??/Max?? rounds that you should be able to posses per gun within the EU.Some countries have unlimited ammo amounts, others like us do.So for once the Eurocrats tried to do something right and set a happy standard for what you could transport without too much bother about the EU wnen travelling with your gun.So there is nothing to stop you going back to AGS and asking for a 500 round increase as it is "the norm " within the EU.[Whether you get is is another story, but most will buck it up to within the limit]

As said its only a passport for your guns in a standard EU booklet,so that a cop is looking at somthing sensible and standardised anywhere in the EU rather than askence at our credit card liscenses or even way back when a tatty piece of handwritten green paper with a stamp on it.:)Those were the days of fun travelling with a gun.
