Also the phone rebooted when the alarm came on this morning. Hoping that's a once off. Otherwise I'm delighted with the phone. Should last a long time.

Have mine a month and it has rebooted a couple times when doing different things just randomly

    Dirty or clean flash?

Excuse my ignorance, but not really sure what that means.
Downloaded new ROM over OTA, and used the updater tool to update.

    Sounds like a dirty flash.

Clean flash would be going into the recovery and wiping data and then installing software.
There may be an option to wipe and install fresh for your device.

That I did none of. Not really sure what above means either tbh. I also seem to have lost the theme app, it's gone from the home screen. Not a major thing, now maybe I'll just wait for miui 9...

A dirty flash means you installed the OS software without doing a complete reset of the device. It's generally a bad idea as things can go missing or incompatibilities pop up which cause more problems.

A clean Flash is where you do a complete wipe of all data. It's the most trouble free way to change/update an OS.

Sorry what I mean is depending on the phone manufacturer an OTA update might just install the update over your previous software whereas some will do a clean wipe during the process of updating it. Sometimes a dirty flash can cause issues with how the system operates and cause issues like what you are having.

Looking at the Redmi Note 4 or 4x

2 questions: Is NFC supported on either? I don't see any reference to it in the spec.

Is the camera decent? Seen mixed reviews.

On the Note 4/4X there is no NFC.

Camera on the Note 4 is average. Fairly good in bright conditions, but drops off with moving subjects or dark conditions. Use a different app than the default camera app, it seems to handle processing quiet badly.

Any recommendations for a similar phone with NFC?

I use the leap card app quite a bit to top up as it's handy.

The cheapest phone I know with NFC is the Nokia 5 which is around €220 in Argos. I've not read any reviews for how good it is. Others might have other suggestions.

Just bought the redmi note 4x 5.5"/snapdragon 625/3GB/16GB for 110 euro on goldway

Doesn't have Band 20 but a bargain price

Mi5 is showing around 200+ on Kimovil but probably add duty. This has NFC

Am intersted in the Xiamoi Mi 6, buts it comes in at around 430 ish.
See a lot of talk here about the Redmi 4x. Is there much of a difference to justfiy the the Mi6 being nearly double price?

Big thing for me is the camera...so if anyone can recommend a good one?
I have an Oukitel k6000 at the moment. Its fine but has a cracked screen and bluetooth has stopped working.....plus it is as heavy as ****

From looking around it seems to be a problem. Certain apps cause it so I factory reset my phone. Seems to be all good now and I should know what apps cause it going forward

    Hi,
I have a Xiaomi MI 5s, about 2 or 3 months old. The sound when on a call has suddenly gone quiet/tinny, phone wasn't dropped or anything. I've checked settings etc. Any advice on what else to check, do to try to fix? phone isn't rooted. I presume I can return it by post for free check & repair but, obviously that would take weeks. Bought it from geekbuying site I think.

    Thanks,
    Patrick.

Got a redmi 4x pro today. All great so far. Only question I have is, did anyone else have a problem importing SMS to Google messages app? They import fine into the stock SMS all but not the Google one I prefer. I turned on the option in apps-special permissions to allow reading of SMS.

Is nobody here using Google messages?

And if so, do they recommend it.

This seems like a great price, but they only ship to UK. So i am guessing it would be PM/PW/AP.

But... I've not used any of those for shipments from China yet. I have read many people doing it.
What happens if it gets hit for customs? Do they just reject it or ask you to pay?

    Huwaei tend to be overpriced
if you're comparing them to xiaomi etc

No, not comparing them, i have had a couple of Xiaomi phones already, i just thought that it is a great price.
I was looking at Redmi 4 note 3Gb/32GB (which can be got for €137 from Spain), and a few others. But i like the Huawei. I have not decided yet anyway, and if PW etc are likely to reject it, then i would not go for it anyway.

People seem to get stuff shipped to PM with no issues

I would bother risking it myself

What's gone wrong with it? Mines been benched for 6 months or so, smashed the screen again.

It's become painfully slow at times, have to reboot at least once a week to speed it up, random crashes and cracked screen as well....what's your daily driver now?

Is it easy enough to put twrp on a new redmi note 4x?

HTC One M8, hand me down from the mother. I couldn't afford to buy a new screen for the LeTV so I sure as hell couldn't afford a new phone. LeTV is about 18 months old at this stage, I reckon I've only used it for about 6.

I'll be replacing the screen in the next few weeks though.

Have you tried a different ROM? I think mine is on CM14. Been about 6 months since I've used it but there was no hassle back then.

TWRP is fairly handy to install, I dunno if Xiaomi have been dicking about with new security measures though.

Boot into the bootloader, "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" and then "reboot recovery" is all you need I'm pretty sure.

Its well over 18 months since I've had to flash a recovery so I'd recommend getting an actual tutorial. Have you googled for one?
