"irish TV" player on xbmc

Anyone got Irish TV addon working on xbmc or kodi. Not sure what repo i got that plugin in . The interface works well and fast a lot better and easier to navigate than the rte player website , so i'm gettin the listings just when I select a stream nothing will play - will just time out after a second . I'm on Gotham, anyone got it working on any xbmc version. I wonder if the new rte commerical's have broken it. Or could anyone say if they have it working over a sustained period of time as if it's buggy all the time i just wont bother with it at all.

edit: I have to stay on gotham cause i'v got the useful Film.ON addon working on it , wouldn't work on Kodi.

That stopped working a while ago.
I am using Kodi 15 beta tho.

If your looking for the live streams have a look at vdubt25 addon , not sure what add on would have the player functionality.

Went back at it again ..... fiddled about with Config and it launched after that ...... weird ..... but thanks for the heads-up ;)

just checked the Irish TV plug in again on another Kodi box, this time on a Rasberry Pi and its working there too - i wonder if its just on the android platform its not working?

Running Helix 14.2 on win 8.1 htpc and the Irish TV player add-on doesn't work. Lists programs alright but when you try playback nothing happens.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,202 ✭✭✭colossus-x

I'm new to xbmc but not htpc , I use mediaportal. Can anyone explain why a plugin or addon would work on one version of xbmc and not another and more importantly why it would work on one OS and not another even when using the same version of xbmc ie addon x works on helix android but not on helix windows 7.

Adding and testing all these repos and trying different versions of xbmc is just giving me a headache and I don't think I can be bothered.

What version of IrishTV plugin are you using? I just checked and am using 2.0.14 Author Mossy. RTE1, TV3 and TG4 all working perfectly.

I have the same exact same version. TV3 and TG4 playback works but RTE doesnt. No error messages are received. Any ideas?

Using 15 beta and 2.0.14'wouldn't work. Downloaded update from https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B_etmGD8fZ4oRVprNjNtWTVCOXc&usp=sharing and now it opens but as I read he has a problem with rte. The rest now work.

That is weird. I have not done any extra configurations, and its working on both my Pi2 boxes, my OpenElec NUC, and on my Win7 PC.

Only other thing that might be different is that I am on Eircom, but not using Eircoms DNS - instead I use OpenDns, and sometimes google. 8.8.8.8. Long shot but try changing DNS server?

Cheers for the link. I downloaded the 2.1.3, and it adds UTV section, but RTE is broken (it actually says not working in the link!)

So as RTE is more important to me, I went back to 2.0.14, and RTE is working again.

Just checked 2.0.14 on my nuc with kodi 14. I can browse shows but they won't play on rte.

Correct - thats what we're trying to figure out- why RTE plays for some and not for others...

I remember back in the day there was some dependency on having another plugin installed, I think it was TWiT, to allow playback of certain streams. Might be worth a try and install it.

good idea! I configured my boxes using fusion and the hubwizard, and RTE plays for me, so maybe the hubwizard is installing something that allows it to work!?

Can I get the rte and bbc player on my android box. Am using xmbc. If I can get it, has anyone got a fools guide to installing it. Thanks!

If you have an android box why not just install the apps from the play store rather than use kodi?

I installed TWiT and restarted Kodi. Same problem, I still cannot playback RTE on Win8.1+Helix 14.2.

I uninstalled ver 2.0.14 and installed 2.1.3, it adds UTV Ireland but marks RTE as 'not working' - it won't even display program details :(

Would REALLY like to find a solution to this one!

Rte streams are not working in a lot of places.
Their latest app plays mainly ads (check review on Google play) so they may have changed something at their end

Just checked .... MX RTE Player ...... RTE1 & RTE2 both in HD working.

    Linux OS with Kodi installed.

    That rules that out so.
Movie maestro, check your log file, it may give an indication? Post up anything relevant if you need some guidance

I just lent my sister one of my Raspberry Pi2 boxes running Kodi to try. Before I gave it to her, RTE player was working on Irish TV version 2.0.14.

But when she plugs it in at her house, RTE does not play - no error message - just like M. Maestro reports.

So, if the exact same box will work on one network and not on the other, it must be network related. I am on Eircom, she is with Vodafone. And we both have different routers. I did not have time to troubleshoot further but I will look at it again next weekend. Has to be something network related, for example maybe DNS, uPnP or firewall settings on the router, or VF/Eircom related even...

Just letting you know that i am able to run mx rte player live streams perfectly. I am with UPC running google DNS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 540 ✭✭✭captain_boycott

I've had a look at what is happening on my network when RTE is playing, and I can see that kodi is making a RTMP connection, port 1935 to RTE.

After some googling, i come across this

"Some firewalls reject traffic that doesn't use the HTTP protocol. This behavior can prevent communication over RTMP even if port 1935 is open. Consult the documentation for the firewall to determine how to configure it to allow RTMP traffic."

so have a look at your router settings - see if you can create a rule to allow traffic thru port 1935. Note it appears to be using TCP.

To be honest if you have a Sky dish I would look at getting some sort of free to air box which will still allow you to get some of the free channels (I assume this is possible - I'm not living in Ireland so cannot confirm). As there are few sources for Irish channels on Kodi, I wouldn't like to rely on an Android box for this

The Zeus Addon, VDUBT25 addon and possibly UK Turk live streams should allow you to watch TV3 :D

    Hi,

I recently bought an MX XBMC android box. I'm new to this technology. I've learned how to use Netflix on it, but that's about it. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to view Irish and English terrestial TV channels on it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 Auds22002

Just installed the most recent version from the xunity repo (author: mikey1234, I think) on OpenELEC.

Nearly everything works in the catchup section (RTE & TG4 but not TV3) and in the live section, RTE 2, TV3 (4:3 though) and TG4 work but not RTE One.

it might be that you might need to use the second link, can you see what is reported in the log file?
