Yeah savage hunger and a couple of extra scoring forwards, mannion, flynn, whelan etc uncovered. We'll need to find a full back tho to keep an eye on TJ Reid.

A game full of passion and a credit to both teams, neither let up till the final whistle.
I am not a hurling buff, I come from a non hurling county which it is slowly but surely making its presence felt ;)
I cannot understand why hurling is not more recognised on the world stage especially after a game like the senior semi final today.

amateur sport, no big €'s involved

most of those guys will be back at the day job to morrow (maybe even an odd 1 to day)

training before & after work a couple of times a week, some commitment since last christmas

When Croke Park opens it's doors, everyone there gets paid for their day's work, and I mean everyone. Everyone except the players and the fans that go in to watch. There is serious money floating around in the GAA.

Why would the fans be paid? Serious money generated by the GAA but it goes out the doors of croke park as quick as it comes in.

There's plenty people in this country lining their own pockets from the GAA.

in fairness to the GRAB ALL ASSOCIATION, ( & I'd be as quick as anyone to critize them)

they have playing pitches etc, in nearly every little village in the countryside, the amenities are there for the youth, if they want to use them or go on the X box is another matter

Soccer & Rugby clubs on the other have sfa in this area any how & it's only the top players that get a chance with the bigger clubs

And if a young lad gets injured good luck and f*** yourself if ya think you'll get sorted. Local gaa club secretary will be at your back door for a cup of tay and forms to fill out within a week.

Didn't mean to drag down the tone of the thread. It was those at the high level of the GAA, not club level, that I was making a point about. They are great at selling this whole ' Great for amateurs' thing, yet have no problem taking a healthy salary themselves.

Whats wrong with a healthy salary for a full time job exactly? There are plenty more who volunteer (and happy to do so) at plenty of levels but don't let that spoil a bit of ill-informed sh1te slinging.

The hurlers on the ditch syndrome if people are giving out why don't they volunteer and stop moaning.
They might actually see were people's time and the money goes other than that shut up whinging.

Managing a team is like having a third job. But I wouldn't have it any other way. The GAA is the heart and soul of most rural communities.

The further you are from your own community the more important the GAA can become for you.
Like many organisations the GAA has its issues, but even so there's nothing like it. It's truly world class.

Because the GAA doesnt look at the bigger picture IMO. Hurling isn't a great Irish sport. Its a great sport full stop but GAA clubs in other countries seem to be there to facilitate ex-pats more than trying to get new players playing.

Uni's and colleges in othere countries is where it really should be pushed.

The GAA should start looking at itself as the world governing body of the sport and give spots on Congress to boards such as the Asian county board

I'd sooner see hurling go National before international. It's dying a death in too many counties.

If you ever listen to the likes of Ger Loughnane, when he talks about hurling in these counties that are struggling, you get the feeling that he's really concerned about the future of the game overall.

I couldn't help but notice yesterday the amount of ground hurling there was. Great to see. When it came to split second decisions, guys just let fly. A lot of these gurus in other counties seemed to have banned it completely.

I remember Loughnane in the League Final 1977 against kilkenny in Thurles,

Teams weren't as fit in those days but there was some timber used ,

great time to be selling hurls & first aid kits :D

Whelan, do you have much trouble with your phoneline/wi-fi? We are driven daft any time it rains recently the whole lot go down - I have eircom on speed dial. Haven't managed to do much for us yet, I've told them to fix the problem, reduce my bill or I'll leave them. I'm glad I haven't all my farming stuff online, as I'd be bald by now trying to do anything, there are advantages to being 'old fashioned'.

But it's more another access to your account along with traditional banking rater than a switch. The Bricks and Mortar bank option will still be there, but can also see and do stuff online. It's a case of both rather than either or.
