Came across it for the first time last week, less than 5 minutes on live chat had it sorted but I'd sooner not had to waste my time. Unbeatable after sales support though, can't think of a single company with such prompt response times.

My real point is not really that the sale is insignificant to them. It's that they didn't live up to their deal (free postage on orders over £25) and instead of spending (say) £30 in Amazon, the poster spent (say) £31 somewhere else. It's not a saving, it's an extra charge to the poster.

The real problem though is that Amazon are offering a deal and not living up to it. It's like walking into a coffee shop with one of their "buy 10, get one free" cards and being told that they're not honouring it today. Or going into a supermarket and buying something because it has a special offer and then not being given the correct price at the till, then having to spend your own time convincing the people in the shop exactly what "buy 10 get one free" means, or what "free postage on orders over £25" means.

I would gladly lodge a complaint with the relevant European body (*not* Amazon) which deals with this of I could work out who to lodge it with. They are advertising one thing and providing another.

Except its not like that at all,
Its like going into a coffee shop when it says "buy 10, get one free" and at first you're told its not an offer but then you remind them and they apologise and give you the one free item. Sure its not ideal but you make it come across like Amazon are intentionally doing it.

You don't even have to call or chat with them, just send them an e-mail if it happens and they'll refund the charges if you've already been charged or change you to free delivery if its not dispatched yet.

Well they have to be, they are doing it for so long and haven't fixed it yet.

At the very least they are intentionally not fixing it.

Its basically fraud although I know thats not a word that appeasers like you want to hear.

Tbh, I believe they are intentionally deceiving people. Otherwise the issue would have been resolved by now.

Err, it's actually your loss. You could have paid £x to Amazon (if they lived up to their deal) but you paid £x+y to another company. Nothing bad happened to Amazon other than not getting one sale in a million.

Which is their loss, no matter how you try to dress it up, for whatever reason. They lost a sale, I was buying the product anyway, so I didn't lose anything.

Even if it's a more complex issue than you believe it to be?

i order a lot from amazon and have been pretty peeved by this bug for the last few months,...it's definitely resulted in my ordering less from their site. i got so frustrated i even emailed jeff bezos and got this reply:

So, you think a global leader in online retailing doesn't have the IT skills to fix a bug in their shopping cart system? Or the person who wrote the bit covering Ireland didn't really do it properly and nobody else knows where to fix it?

It doesn't work that way - it's a bug, they can fix it, they're not fixing it and they're continuing to advertise something they aren't delivering on.

And 10 days later when you go to get your next free coffee and the person behind the counter says "nope, not getting a free one" and you have to explain it again. And 10 days later it happens again. And 10 days later. At what point do you start to get annoyed and think they are doing it on purpose?

They should update their delivery policy statement until they have the issue resolved. Is that too complex for them?

It has been about seven months since I first let Amazon know about the issue.
How many months or years have to go by before it is deceitful/fraud?

They are supposedly a global leader in e-trading ffs.
Even if it's a more complex issue than you believe it to be?

I didn't say any of that, though you are implying that it is a simple problem and maybe you know better.

So, you know how it works? You should offer your services to Amazon right away!

That first paragraph is quite fair, they should give people with an Irish IP a heads up that there's an issue with their system, unless that would have an unintended knock on effect too :/

I don't know how to fix it, but I do know they should stop advertising the offer if they can't deliver on it. I know they wouldn't be leaving a bug in their system if it resulted in them under charging customers for months on end.

At the end of the day, it looks like some people here are trying to advocate for the consumer, some aren't. I'm happy this thread exists and as a result I've got a refund of what is quite clearly an over charge. I'm not happy that I was over charged in the first place, or that many others have been over charged.

I order to US and UK addresses frequently and this issue does not arise. It only appears to be an issue for Irish customers.

They have a section under their delivery page regarding deliveries to Ireland.
"Deliveries to the Republic of Ireland"
It must be extremely difficult for them to update that page/section.

I just ordered 5 items from 3 different departments all under £14 (2 add-on items) with a total of about £35 and got the free delivery option with no problem?

If the issue still exists it might be that it worked for me because no one item was expensive enough to give me free delivery on its own.

That is the workaround. If all items in the order are below £25 and sold by or fulfilled by Amazon you will get free delivery. Once an item over £25 is added the order will be split with free delivery only for the dearer item.

Ya Amazon UK and DE seem to have a lot more restrictions on delivery in Ireland lately too.

Try their sites at Amazon.de and Amazon.fr, they're cheaper but don't have free delivery. Because of the € to £ difference at the moment, their Euro sites still work out cheaper when you add delivery (for some items, but not all).

    Who's investigating it?

Found this when ordering last night. Couldn't see anything in there terms and conditions that suggested I should now be paying for shipping so came straight on here to see if anyone else had the same problem. Ended up having to order a load of batteries just to make it worth my while buying.

I work as a software developer. Unless their entire live support team has been on strike for 7 months, there is no way a bug like that would be in a live system for that long without them knowing about it and choosing to do nothing. Could be any number of reasons for that, one of them just so happens to be that they're profiting from it. Seriously unimpressed, would have bought elsewhere if one of the items wasn't so specialised. Amazon has already become less attractive due to the exchange rate. This only makes things worse.

They do not offer 2 day delivery to Ireland now either, Every item I go to buy or have a look at.

So I make the order (even though it's splitting things up which are all sold by Amazon or fulfilled by them) and then get straight onto customer service to sort it out? Want to order two items that are both "fulfilled by Amazon" by it's splitting them into separate orders and charging me postage on the second item even though both combined are well over £25.

If you have the order ready at the checkout before the final click you can then open a chat session give your user info and the rep can see the order. The rep will tell you to go ahead and order and he'll remove the delivery charges. You then get an email notification of the order without the delivery charges. If the charges aren't removed you can still cancel the order and start again but I haven't needed to.

    Email from Amazon

I would like to advise that your query regarding Super saver delivery to Ireland is still being investigated.

Please accept my apologies for this delay. Although we endeavour to complete our research within 3 to 5 business days, sometimes it may take slightly longer. Please be assured that we shall contact you shortly with further information.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding in this matter.

Be interesting to see what they come back with.
