India batted well so far but two rather large slices of luck, saved from losing one wicket Jaisiwals by DRS by about an inch, ball just clipping the top of the stumps… and an edge just evading leg slip.

Anderson gets Ashwin as I type, the tech helps England this time….. jeeez Anderson rolling back the years, line, length and movement, quick too.

    Jaiswal 202* out of 375/7

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,808 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

Jaiswal out now for 209. Bit of a silly shot near the end of Jimmy Anderson's spell, but hard to be critical of his overall effort. 383/8

England scoring quickly but 3 down now, Crawley 76 and Root 5, 114/1 to 123/3.

And Pope soon after to a great ball from Bumrah. England were in such a dominant position until Crawley's rush of blood. He looked like doing what Jaiswal did and threw it away. Two gingers have a job on now to rebuild.

Bumrah doing a number on England here. England are mirroring India's innings here loads of good starts except Jaiswal went on to make a huge score.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,222 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Bumrah is a special talent. Unplayable really.

England require another miracle, batting last it will have to be a big one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,808 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

It won't happen, they batted first and third in the first test, as I type 166 behind, no chance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,937 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yeah England are donald ducked. Got 1-1 written all over it.

England batsmen didn’t show up. One half century over their first innings & a low ball total. Tail wiped out in double quick time too.

So much time remaining in the test.

Joe Root is seriously struggling in the series with the bat. Even his body language is that of a guy very short on confidence…. Not what you are accustomed to seeing

Bumrah has Root's number and when you get a few low scores, suddenly the confidence goes.

Crawley was playing supremely well and his wicket just completely changed the game and Bumrah was simply unplayable today. Easily the best Indian pace bowler that I have ever seen. His unorthodoxy makes him difficult to play ala Malinga and he just puts the ball where he wants to.

Wonder how the day will pan out. My gut feeling is again that England will have a tough time getting enough wickets and quickly enough to leave a getable total. Probably need to restrict India to around 200 max which I can’t see happening.

India bat all day they’ll end up with a lead around 450-470… which will win them the test and some.. so much time left, no hurry.

difficult to see as how unthreatening the English bowlers have been, that they’ll be able to make the necessary inroads… but shall see, maybe a new day, new ideas.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,937 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Root opening the bowling. If I’m an Indian batsman that’s exactly who I want to see.

Rohit Sharma gone, that was brilliant from Anderson, cracking delivery.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,170 ✭✭✭MFPM

Gill finally steps up! Good 100, India lead by 343...barring a collapse England will be chasing 450.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,170 ✭✭✭MFPM

Lucky wicket that for England. Gill out for 104.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,170 ✭✭✭MFPM

Suspect India have enough runs but their lower order have been poor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,222 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Such a drop off from Bumrah to Mukesh at the other end. So easy against him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,222 ✭✭✭Gillespy

England need 332 runs, India nine wickets. Gill puts it at 70:30. Seems high for England that but that’s a measure of what they’re like these days.

The sooner that Kohli gets back, the better for India. He has the discipline that so many of their entertaining batsmen lack.

Of course if he's not coming back until the 4th test, it may be too late!

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,937 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Shame Duckett got out, he was going brilliantly. England could do with Rehan Ahmed sticking around for 40 mins in the morning… hes no mug with the bat he has a first class hundred to his name and a healthy first class average so it’s possible…

Plus for England is time is on their side, they don’t need to go nuts….still advantage India though, next session be interesting…. Wonder what the temperament of India will be if England are say 4 or 5 down but needing 100 runs or so….

If England need 100 with 5 wickets left, India will be in a blind panic. Kane Williamson thrilling as ever has now blocked his way to 30 test centuries

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,222 ✭✭✭Gillespy

And Ravindra made his first century. It's the makeshift South African team so a good opportunity for the Kiwis to stat pad a bit.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,808 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

For sure, crazy selection for South Africa because its clashing with t20 slogging tournament. Not much slogging in most of the matches, because the sloggers can't deal with seam movement and swing. Plenty of low scores in that tournament. One crowd got 52 all out. Sam Curran still getting belted all over the world. Nothing changes. Kane should be scoring quicker against Saffas 2nds, but he had a career strike rate of 51. Class player and all that, but life would pass you by watching him compile a score.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,937 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

NZ cruising vs South Africa….the SA attack looking very average. NZ 300/3… so unless something catastrophic happens to them NZ are probably batting SA out of the game now… 7 wickets left so…. NZ hot favourites.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,937 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Umpires again refuse to call a wide, the delivery only stays on the cut pitch by about 6 inches…

“The ball will be considered as passing wide of the striker unless it is sufficiently within reach for him/her to be able to hit it with the bat by means of a normal cricket stroke.” No way could it be reached, and wasn’t

    🤷‍♂️ umpires in 2024.

Yeah I was hoping for him to get the treble hundred, that’s one of the most impressive cricket batting performances I’ve watched, especially when you consider it’s what, his 4th or 5th test…. ! Funny thing is he got out to one of the worst deliveries he faced all innings, played a rank tired looking shot to it…. But great great innings…Guy is 24, fuuuuk.

here is an interesting link… highest maiden test centuries…. Ravindra doesn’t make the list but an interesting look nevertheless.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,937 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

In the English vs India test it looks like Rehan has been told to go out and play shots rather than stand and block, probably sensible. In that heat if it’s mostly just left to Crawley he’s going to get pretty tired, pretty fast..actually comes down the pitch to Axar, 4, same next shot 😎

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,937 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Rehan gone, deserved more luck than he got. DRS screws him by an inch on umpires call, the pitch though cost him that wicket big time, not the bowler. Would have expected that to bounce a foot higher at least….

lots of inconsistent bounce this morning, Bumrah getting loads too.

England just slogging away their wickets now. KP telling us all how to play. Commentators rattle on a lot, they said Rohit is brave. He must have charged into a burning building and saved a few orphans overnight. Some gravy train they are on.
