As mentioned before now, I have worked on aircraft for many years, so what does VAS stand for? I will accept a couple of answers.

Is it a variation of FUBAR or SNAFU?

Do you mean VAS as in night vision (Visual Augmentation System) or is there a different meaning in Aviation terminology. Does it mean like the heads up display used to missile lock etc?

    oh good grief :D

S is either section, squad or squadron.

now all you need to get is the V.

Probably a much more technical name for it but wild guess and possible very dumb, but how about visiting aircraft squadron ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,551 ✭✭✭Rubecula

I think I am going to have to tell you, and say sorry as I thought it was obvious.

the V stands for .... visiting VAS in entirety stands for Visiting Aircraft Section/squadron

so here is another aircraft related question that relates to me personally.

the RAF's V force comprised of three bombers, can you name them?

Valiant, Victor and Vulcan - in alphabetical order. The Vulcan was the best looking of the three, and one of the best looking planes, ever, in my view.

I saw the Vulcan in it's last flyby in Newcastle, Co. Down a few years ago. "A triangle defying gravity" was the observation of the nearest and dearest.

spot on and it is now your turn.

I can relate to all three aircraft in various ways. I worked on Vulcans, put out fires on Victors and the squadron I worked on was a Valiant squadron originally.
